CHEF LIZZIE
Hi. If you stop by the kitchen looking for a quick snack you've come to the right place. Now, I know how tempting it can be to grab a bag of chips and some dip, but it's really easy to make healthier choices that are also tasty. On this segment, we'll be snacking on a crunchy combo, veggies and hummus.

So I know many of you are probably sitting out there saying, veggies? No dip? That's no fun for snack time.

But believe me. Instead of a gooey dip that's filled with the fatty stuff, like mayonnaise or cream, this is a great and simple alternative. Hummus.

All-natural hummus is a delicious spread that's really easy to find in most supermarkets. It's high fiber, which will help you feel full. The main ingredients are cooked mashed chickpeas and olive oil. They are a great source of protein and healthy fats.

Some hummus that you buy comes with different ingredients mixed in so choose the one you like best. A proper serving is about two tablespoons per person. As a healthy dip, I think hummus can't be beat.

My favorite way to enjoy hummus is with some nice fresh veggies. If you insist on something like chips or crackers, I recommend wholegrain all-natural pita chips or you can even try toasted slices of bread or baguette pieces, which I toasted earlier. But what's best and just as satisfying is to serve hummus with some nice crispy veggies. There are a lot of choices that are full of crunchiness and color.

Some of my faves are yellow squash, cucumber, and red pepper. See? Lots of fun colors.

Name the veggie. You can just chop some up fresh from the grocer or cut up a bunch and keep them in the fridge or have your mom do it because grownup supervision is really important if you're using a knife or anything sharp.

Some delicious crunchy veggies don't even need to be sliced. They just need to be washed, like these snap peas and these baby carrots. Reaching for a bag of crispy baby carrots is just as easy as grabbing a bag of greasy chips, only better. Happy snacking.
