What should I keep in mind if my child plans to take stimulant medication for ADHD?

ANSWER

Keep these things in mind if your child will take stimulants for ADHD:

  • Always give the medication exactly as prescribed.
  • If there are any problems or questions, call your doctor.
  • Start taking the stimulant on a weekend so you see how your child does on it.
  • Try to stick to a regular schedule. Check that a nurse, teacher or other caregiver can give your child the medication at the same time each day if you can't.
  • If you miss a dose, don’t take extra. Just take the next dose at the regular time.
