Alice Domar, PhD, is the director of the Mind/Body Center for Women's Health at the Mind/Body Medical Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She is an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the director of  Women's Health Programs, Division of Behavioral Medicine, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

A graduate of Concord Academy and Colby College, Domar received her master's degree and PhD in health psychology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Ferkauf School of Professional Psychology of Yeshiva University in 1986. She completed postdoctoral training at Beth Israel Hospital, Deaconess Hospital, and Children's Hospital, all in Boston.

Early on, Domar focused on the application of health psychology to women's health issues, including PMS, infertility, endometriosis, high-risk pregnancy, gynecological cancer, and eating disorders. Her initial attempts to establish research in mind/body approaches to women's health met with resistance until she started applying these techniques to female infertility. Research on the clinical outcomes of her mind/body infertility program showed not only an improvement in psychological symptoms, but also an increase in pregnancy rates.

Domar is author of: Healing Mind, Healthy Woman: Using the Mind/Body Connection to Manage Stress and Take Control of Your Life (Dell, 1997), Self-Nurture: Learning to Care for Yourself as Effectively as You Care for Everyone Else (Penguin, 2001) and is co-author of: Six Steps to Increased Fertility (Simon and Schuster, 2000).
