Can you prevent generalized anxiety disorder?

ANSWER

You can't prevent it. But you can control or lessen the symptoms if you:

  • Skip or cut back on caffeine.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you take any over-the-counter drugs or herbal remedies. Many contain chemicals that can increase anxiety symptoms.
  • Exercise daily.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
  • Get counseling and support after a traumatic or disturbing experience.
  • Practice stress management techniques like yoga or meditation.
