April Lane Benson, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with more than 20 years experience both treating people with eating disorders and training therapists who want to develop a specialty in doing psychotherapy with this patient population. The author of I Shop, Therefore I Am, the first and only academic book on the subject of shopping as a problem, she developed her interest in the topic in her position as director of training at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia in New York City. Benson has been quoted in New York magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, Harper's Bazaar, and Redbook and recently appeared in a documentary for Dutch public television on shopping and society.
