Kim Kardashian’s battle with psoriasis has been very public on her reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s. She even filmed her concern over numb hands and other problematic symptoms. Kardashian was afraid she might have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

By the end of the episode, it was revealed that the reason she’s so tired, nauseous, and developing swollen, numb hands is that she has psoriatic arthritis. She felt relief from finally having a diagnosis that could lead to the proper treatment.

According to the American College of Rheumatology, it’s common for people with psoriasis to have psoriatic arthritis. This is because of the inflammation in your body causing psoriasis and arthritis.

Up to 30% of people with psoriasis can also develop psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis also puts you at a risk for other serious health conditions like heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, and depression.

There’s no known cause of psoriatic arthritis, but there may be a genetic link to why people get this condition. Kim Kardashian’s mom, Kris Jenner, was also diagnosed with psoriasis at 30 years old. Researchers believe your immune system is also a factor in developing psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Kardashian is in the age range for individuals who are most likely to be diagnosed. People between 30 to 50 years old have the most diagnosis. There’s no cure for psoriatic arthritis, but over-the-counter anti-inflammatories and prescription anti-rheumatic drugs can help relieve some of the symptoms.

Kardashian seems to be more optimistic than concerned about her diagnosis. She said, “the pain is going to come and go sometimes, but I can manage it. This isn’t going to stop me”.

Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are triggered by stress. Living a stressful lifestyle can cause painful psoriatic flares. One thing Kardashian needs to prioritize is slowing down and focusing on her health.
