What are gas phase air filters?

ANSWER

Gas phase air filters use activated carbon granules to remove odors (volatile organic compounds or VOCs) and other pollution such as cooking gas, gases from paint or building materials, and perfume. These thin black filters often go in front of HEPA filters. A disadvantage is that they quickly become ineffective as they absorb a load of fumes, so you have to replace them as often as every month. But they are relatively inexpensive. An advantage is that they remove large particles and help expensive HEPA filters last longer.
