What tests are used to diagnose asthma in children?

ANSWER

Many children will have a chest X-ray and, for those ages 6 and older, a test called spirometry. This measures the amount of air in their lungs and how fast they can breathe it out. Other tests may include allergy skin testing, blood tests, and X-rays to see if sinus infections or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are causing any issues. The doctor also might recommend an asthma test that measures the amount of nitric oxide in their breath (eNO).
