2 weeks or longer
That isn't it.
Your doctor will likely recommend delivery of your twins sometime prior to your due date, depending on how your pregnancy has progressed. Talk to you doctor about timing of delivery and whether or not she would recommend an induction for you.
You've got it right.
Your doctor may decide to speed things along if a week or two has passed since your due date and your babies are still stubbornly stuck in your womb.
It's a good idea to induce by 42 weeks, because babies who linger any longer than that are at greater risk for health problems. Their food supply (the placenta) can run out, or they may have their first bowel movement (meconium) and breathe it in.
