Does insurance cover a tummy tuck?

ANSWER

Insurance companies generally don't cover cosmetic surgeries like tummy tucks. But yours might be if you have a hernia that will be corrected through the procedure.

Before you decide whether to get a tummy tuck, talk to your insurance company so you're clear on what's covered and what's not. If you think you can make a case that you need the procedure for medical reasons, your surgeon may be able to help you by writing a letter to your insurer.
