One of the hardest side effects of cancer treatment is losing your hair. Hair loss from chemotherapy is very common. It can be a blow to your self-esteem on top of the other stressful aspects of cancer treatment.

Wearing a wig is a great way to look and feel better during the rough parts of treatment. If you've never worn a wig before, you might need to learn the basics of wig care. Here are some basic supplies you'll need for maintaining your wig:

  • Wig cap
  • Wig stand
  • Wire wig brush
  • Wig-friendly shampoo, conditioner, and styling products
  • Gel strips
  • Hair net
  • Hair pins
  • Rollers

You may also want to buy some soft scarves and hats to cover your head on days when you don't want to wear a wig.

Talk to your hairstylist or wig store staff about how to care for your wig. They'll be able to give you plenty of tips and tricks for maintaining your wig until you don't need to wear one anymore.
