It can be overwhelming deciding what to pack for your chemotherapy appointments. Having a checklist can help you stay organized. Use this chemo appointment care kit checklist to simplify the planning process.

  • Dress for comfort. Dress in loose and light clothing that’s comfortable, like sweatpants or yoga pants. Wear a low-neck or V-neck top so the healthcare team can give you chemotherapy treatment without your clothes getting in the way.
  • Prepare for temperature variations: Carry a sweater or warm blanket, as your body temperature can switch from hot to cold during the same visit.
  • Carry a pillow. Treatments can go on for hours. Carry a pillow and warm socks in case you need to sleep.
  • Ward off hunger pangs. Eat a light meal before your visit and pack some light snacks and bottled water, as you may be there for a while. You might get hungry.
  • Pack a distraction. Carry a book, magazine, e-reader, games on your smartphone, or puzzles to keep your mind engaged.
  • Take a friend or family member with you. If it’s your first visit, it can be comforting to bring a friend or family member with you. You can even take objects that you find soothing, like photos, soft toys, or anything else that makes you relaxed and happy.
  • Other items you may need. Also pack essentials like a toothbrush and toothpaste, lotion, tissues, lip balm, and alcohol-free sanitizer.
