When do you need surgery for mastoiditis?
ANSWER
If the symptoms don’t quickly improve on IV antibiotics, or complications, like an abscess or bone erosion, develop, surgery to remove the infected mastoid bone may be recommended. This procedure is called a mastoidectomy.
