How can deep brain stimulation (DBT) help with treating depression?

ANSWER

This surgical procedure implants electrodes in specific brain areas to deliver an electric current to relieve the symptoms of depression. The electrodes are powered by a battery pack implanted in the chest or belly. Early results have been promising. But more research is needed to know how well it works.
