What snacks can I give my child with type 1 diabetes?

ANSWER

It's best to stick to snacks with little or low carbs that won't have big effect on your child's blood sugar levels. Kid-friendly options include low-fat string cheese, hard-boiled eggs, and a small serving of nuts. "Free" snacks like cucumbers, celery, and sugar-free drinks and gelatin have very few carbs. An occasional sweet treat is OK, but make sure your child eats fewer carbs later in the day to make up for it.
