If your doctor says you have prediabetes, make these simple changes to lower your odds of getting Type 2 Diabetes.

Start by losing just 7% of your body weight if you're carrying extra pounds. To do that, gradually eat more fruit, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein. And watch your portion sizes.

Cut back on foods with lots of salt, sugar, and saturated fat.

Get exercise to stay at a healthier weight. Work up to a half hour of activity on most days. Remember you don't have to do all 30 minutes at once.

And if you smoke, prediabetes is another sign it's time to quit.

Ask your doctor for help kicking the habit.

Boost your chances of a happy, healthy future without diabetes.

Follow these steps and take medication if your doctor recommends it.
