Is niacin (vitamin b3) safe to take?

ANSWER

At the low dietary reference intake (DRI) doses, niacin is safe for everyone. But at the higher amounts used to treat medical conditions, it can have risks. For that reason, children and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding shouldn't take niacin supplements at levels higher than the DRI unless it's recommended by a doctor. People with uncontrolled gout should also not take niacin supplements. You should be able to get enough niacin from a healthy diet.
