What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Gemcitabine HCL Vial to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Known or Theoretical Risk:
If you are NURSING
- Absolute Contraindication: AVOID BREASTFEEDING DURING TREATMENT AND FOR 1 WEEK FOLLOWING LAST DOSE.
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: General-Grade 3 or 4 thrombocytopenia or neutropenia are more common in the elderly. Plasma clearance in the elderly (age 79) is slower resulting in a drug half life that is nearly twice that in young (age 29) patients. The manufacturer does not have any dosing guidelines in the elderly.
Giving Gemcitabine HCL Vial to a child under 12
- management or monitoring precaution: Efficacy not demonstrated in pediatric trials of refractory leukemia , relapsed ALL or AML. Toxicity profile similar to adults.
