What is Ilumya used for?

Ilumya (tildrakizumab-asmn) is commonly used to treat people with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who may benefit from an injection, pill, or ultraviolet (UV) light therapy.

Ilumya may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.

How does Ilumya work (mechanism of action)?

Ilumya works by blocking the effect of a substance called interleukin-23 (IL-23). This substance is normally made by your body and is part of your body’s response to inflammation. Blocking this substance can help treat the symptoms of psoriasis.

How is Ilumya supplied (dosage forms)?

Ilumya is available in an injectable form.

How should I store Ilumya?

Store Ilumya in the original carton in a refrigerator, between 36 F to 46 F (2 C to 8 C). Do not freeze Ilumya. 

You can store Ilumya for up to 30 days at room temperature, between 68 F to 77 F (20 C to 25 C) in the original carton to protect it from light. 

Do not store Ilumya above 77 F (25 C). Throw Ilumya away after 30 days if kept at room temperature. If stored at room temperature for less than 30 days, do not place Ilumya back in the refrigerator. 

Side Effects

What are the most common side effects of Ilumya?

The most common side effects of Ilumya are listed below. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any of these side effects that bother you.

  • Infection in the nose or throat, sore throat, or common cold symptoms
  • Pain, itching, redness, or swelling at the injection site
  • Diarrhea

What are the serious side effects of Ilumya?

While less common, the most serious side effects of Ilumya are described below, along with what to do if they happen.

Severe Allergic Reactions. Ilumya can cause allergic reactions, which can be serious. Stop using Ilumya and get help right away if you have any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

  • Breathing problems or wheezing
  • Racing heart
  • Fever or general ill feeling
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Trouble swallowing or throat tightness
  • Itching, skin rash, or pale red bumps on the skin called hives
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness, feeling lightheaded, or fainting
  • Stomach cramps
  • Joint pain

Infection. Ilumya can increase the risk of infections, including serious infections. Call your healthcare provider if you have an infection or any of the following symptoms.

  • Burning or stinging when you pee 
  • Cough or coughing up blood
  • Fever, sweats, chills, or muscle aches
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea or stomach pain
  • Weight loss

Warnings & Precautions

Who should not use Ilumya?

Allergies to Ingredients. People who are allergic to any of the following should not use Ilumya.

  • Ilumya
  • Tildrakizumab-asmn 
  • Any of the ingredients in the specific product dispensed

What should I know about Ilumya before using it?

Do not use Ilumya unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. A healthcare provider will give you each dose of Ilumya. Use it as prescribed by making appointments to get each dose.

Do not share Ilumya with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.

Keep Ilumya out of the reach of children. If this medicine is kept in the refrigerator, take special care to keep it away from children who also use the refrigerator. 

Do not shake Ilumya.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before using Ilumya?

Tell your healthcare provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them determine if Ilumya is right for you.

In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following.

Infection. Tell your healthcare provider if you have an infection or an infection that keeps coming back. Also tell your healthcare provider if you have tuberculosis (TB), even if you are getting treatment, or if you live or work with someone who has TB. Your healthcare provider will likely check to see if you have TB before prescribing this medicine.

Vaccines. You should not receive any live vaccines right before or while using Ilumya. Tell your healthcare provider if you have recently received a live vaccine or have any scheduled.

Pregnancy. It is not known if or how Ilumya could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you are or plan to become pregnant. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should use Ilumya while you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

Breastfeeding. It is not known if Ilumya passes into breast milk. Tell your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should use Ilumya while breastfeeding.

Does Ilumya interact with foods or drinks?

There are no known interactions between Ilumya and foods or drinks.

It is unknown if drinking alcohol will affect Ilumya.

Overdose/Missed Dose

What should I do if I accidentally use too much Ilumya?

If you or someone else has used too much Ilumya, get medical help right away, call 911, or contact a Poison Control center at 800-222-1222.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Ilumya?

If you miss an appointment to get your Ilumya dose, call to make another appointment as soon as possible.
