    What should I know regarding pregnancy, nursing and administering Quetiapine FUMARATE ER to children or the elderly?

    If you are:

    Pregnant:

    Only When Necessary: NON-TERATOGENIC COMPLICATIONS (RESP, GI,CNS) WITH EXPOSURE DURING 3RD TRIMESTER

    Nursing:

    Precaution: LIMITED DATA SUGGEST MINIMAL AMNT EXCRETED ;NO OBSERVED ADV EFFECTS ON INFANT

    An adult over 60:

    management or monitoring precaution: Neuro/Psych-Higher risk of tardive dyskinesia. Anticholinergic effects cause sedation, worsen cognitive impairment and increase fall risk. Increased risk of death in senile dementia. Cardiovascular-May cause orthostatic hypotension at higher doses. Higher incidence of stroke and transient ischemic attacks. Start at a lower dose of 50mg/day using slower titration. Gastrointestinal-May cause or worsen pre-existing constipation. Urogenital-Best avoided in patients with urinary retention.

    Giving quetiapine FUMARATE ER to a child under 12:

    Severe Precaution: Possible increased suicidal ideation and attempt. Risk of weight gain, somnolence, tachycardia. Safety and efficacy not established. Not approved age < 10 years per manufacturer.

    management or monitoring precaution: Monitor behavior, weight, blood pressure, glucose, lipids. Possible increased risk of suicidal ideation and attempt. Higher incidence of nausea and vomiting. Risk of somnolence, tachycardia, irritability.
