Who should not take CERVIDIL?

The following conditions are contraindicated with this drug. Check with your physician if you have any of the following:


  • genital herpes
  • uterine fibroids
  • diabetes
  • anemia
  • a type of blood clotting disorder called disseminated intravascular coagulation
  • increased pressure in the eye
  • glaucoma, an increased pressure in the eye
  • high blood pressure
  • low blood pressure
  • asthma
  • a disease of the lung
  • inflammation of the cervix
  • lesions of the endocervix
  • narrowing or blockage of cervix opening to the uterus
  • abnormal bleeding from the uterus
  • water broken
  • increased strength or frequency of uterine contractions
  • seizures
  • placenta previa
  • a pregnancy with more than one fetus
  • previous C section
  • grand multiparity
  • fetal distress
  • small maternal pelvis compared to normal fetal head size
