  • Precaution: MONITOR FOR EXCESSIVE DROWSINESS; NOT LIKELY TO OCCUR WITH SHORT TERM USE

  • management or monitoring precaution: Neuro/Psych-Elderly may be more sensitive to the sedative effects. May significantly impair motor and cognitive performance in elderly increasing the risk for falls. Tolerance occurs within 10 days.
  • Pediatric use

  • Severe Precaution: Prolonged half-life of trichloroethanol (active metabolite) in age < 2 years: risk of excessive CNS depression, hyperbilirubinemia and metabolic acidosis. Contraindicated for sedation of children with sleep apnea, especially obstructive sleep apnea with adenoid/tonsillar hypertrophy, due to the risk of fatal respiratory obstruction. Monitor for gastric irritation, vomiting, and aspiration of the stomach contents. Reports of ileus, increases in middle ear pressure.
