An adult over 60:
management or monitoring precaution: General-Increased risk for adverse effects (e.g. renal, neuro, hematologic). Urogenital-Increased susceptibility to nephrotoxicity; may consider reduced dose. Neuro/Psych-Increased risk of peripheral neuropathy in elderly. Endocrine-May exacerbate or cause SIADH and hyponatremia; monitor sodium level closely when starting or changing dosages.
Giving Platinol AQ Solution to a child under 12:
Severe Precaution: Severe ototoxicity and vestibular toxicity observed. Risk may increase with thiopurine S-methyltransferase gene variant. Audiometry recommended prior to, during and after treatment. No safety and efficacy established.
