What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering SUPRANE to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Not Recommended:
If you are NURSING
- Precaution: LOW MOLECULAR WT,MAY BE EXCRETED; SHORT T 1/2, INFANT EXPOSURE LIKELY MINIMAL
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: General-The minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of desflurane decreases with increasing patient age. The average MAC in a 70 year old patient is two-thirds the MAC for a 20 year old. Adjust dose in the elderly accordingly.
Giving Haloperidol to a child under 12
- Severe Precaution: Contraindicated for induction of anesthesia in children. Risk of laryngospasm, cough, and secretions. Particular caution with asthma or recent upper airway infection. Risk of postoperative agitation. Unknown risk of long-term cognitive deficits with duration of use exceeding 3 hours.
- Severe Precaution: Contraindicated for induction of anesthesia in children. Avoid use longer than 3 hours. Risk of laryngospasm, cough, and secretions. Particular caution with asthma or recent upper airway infection. Risk of postoperative agitation.
