After trying 4 other drugs for depression, I finally got on this; and it works great! Depression has subsided, and I sleep much better and rise without a "hangover" feeling. No side effects that I can tell.

I began taking Remeron an combination with Celexa for anxiety. Taking the Remeron at night took the edge off the Celexa speedy feeling. After a year I stopped taking the Celexa and took only small 5mg dose of Remeron at night. Now many years later I take the small dose of Remeron a couple times a week. It keeps the excessive anxiety away and is a great sleep aid. I am told that Remeron has the interesting property that at smaller doses it causes more drowsiness. I once gave my 25 year old son 5mg and he just about slept continually for 3 days.Read More Read Less

Prescribed for insomnia. Did not work at all without adding other drugs or supplements to it. Only took for 1 month and tried to quit and it caused 6 straight nights of not one minute of sleep insomnia. Nothing worked to help me, even prescription sleeping pills did not work. I had to start taking it again to get any sleep and then it took me 13 months of 10% a month reductions to get off of it. Horrible drug and should not be on the market.

I've been on a few different anti-depressants and this by FAR is the one that actually works. Other medications wouldn't allow me to feel any emotion. I was very much a shell of a person unable to feel anything at all. This drug allows me to feel my emotions and keeps me clear-headed. Are there days that suck? Yes, but I've noticed those correlate with my period. I've also never slept better! It knocks me out in about 30 minutes and I never wake up groggy or out of it. I would also note that I started meditating and became very mindful of the narrative in my head, rewriting that narrative from negative to positive until it became my nature I'm sure you've heard of Lucky Girl Syndrome. Life is a fun ride sometimes, y'all. We just have to see it. Good luck! Read More Read Less

***MIRACLE ALERT*** I’ve been saying this for 2 years, and no side effects. Without Mirtazapine I would be dead. Surely on the inside, but likely 6 feet under done in by my own hand. Stop reading reviews and TELL your doctor you want it...it could save your life too!

12 years on various medications for severe depression and anxiety. I could not sleep and wanted to die. The first morning after starting mirtazapine, I immediately felt better. I slept like a baby for 10 hours! Been on it for 2 years now, and I sleep for 7-8 hours every night. My depression is gone. My anxiety is gone. I feel 20 years younger. I love myself and others more than I have at any point in my life. It truly is a miracle drug!!!

I've been taking half a 15mg tablet every night for a year now and it works well for me. I've always tried to avoid medication but events piled up on me and I got into a continued negative frame of mind, getting upset very easily. My doctor first prescribed Sertraline which I took for maybe four days, it was quite honestly one of the worst extended periods of mental anguish in my life. It gave me a panic attack that just didn't go away. Everyone it seems reacts differently. Mirtazapine however has a couple of major benefits for me, situations where I may get extremely wound up or upset (say with my children or ex-partner) I can now generally walk away from. Yes, it is possibly dulling my emotions. The other major benefit is sleep, anxiety was keeping me awake night after night, with a snowball effect on my ability to think positively. Mirtazapine sends me to sleep without me having to worry about it. On the down side I think I was became drowsy mid afternoon for a good few months and consuming alcohol (which it advises against) seemed to double the alcohols effect. Thankfully I think I've got over that... BTW the doctor prescribed 15mg but I halved the dose, breaking each pill in two, preferring to keep pharmaceutical intake to a minimum. Read More Read Less

This drug is a MIRACLE. I mean it. I was initially treated with trazodone + sertraline for depression, my doctor suggested switching trazodone to mirtazapine because I experienced some serious side effects with it. And I think that mirtazapine saved my life. Of course, I found sertraline helpful, but it really didn't do much for me in comparison to mirtazapine. This drug calms anxiety, enables you to have decent sleep at night, makes an immediate difference in your overall mood and gave me peace I needed. Although, it was difficult to use at first - I needed to get used to its immediate effect (extreme tiredness) and I felt like I could sleep 12 hours for the first nights I used it. After a few days this effect decreased and now it just works as a sleep aid. Highly recommend. It's worth trying and I don't know where all the negative opinions come from.Read More Read Less

A few months ago a traumatic incident gave me chronic anxiety and insomnia which eventually made me feel suicidal, so I went to my doctor for help. The only previous antidepressant I’d tried was Citalopram which just made my depression worse. I told the doctor this and he prescribed me beta blockers for my anxiety and Mirtzapine to help me sleep. He said I may have to wait weeks to feel the full effect, but I began feeling noticeably better in a few days. The quality of sleep was the amazing thing. I’ve nearly always had insomnia issues, but was suddenly getting a deep 8 hours of sleep a night. My appetite returned too and a week I was a totally different person to the suicidal one who couldn’t see a way forward.. I Hope Mirtzapine works this well for anyone else who needs to take it. I started taking mirtazapine in 2016 after 30 years of insomnia, which began immediately after suffering a whiplash injury. It was the first medication, throughout those years, that actually worked and without next day consequences. I started on a quarter of a tablet and over time, as required, gradually increased the dosage to a full tablet, the maximum allowed. Eventually, that no longer worked also. Most worrying was my weight gain over those couple of years, even though I was fasting twice a week and exercising regularly. My GP considered the gain was ‘average’ for my age (then 64)! I wasn’t happy about the likelihood of further gains and the prospect of diabetes and other conditions related to being grossly overweight. I started taking melatonin instead, which wasn’t very effective, but I lost 8kg in a matter of weeks without even trying! I have since been on a rotation of stilnox, temazepam and dayvigo, with varying, and overall, unsatisfactory results. I now have been prescribed Seroquel 25mg for insomnia. I have only been using it for one week and so far, so good. This medication, like any other, has reported, but I’ve been assured, more manageable side effects. It will be wonderful if this drug improves my sleep without all the nasty side effects of the other medications.Read More Read Less

Citalopram user for years for depression. Night terrors for 30 years, complex PTSD. This is the 3rd time I have tried to use Mirtazapine, I’ve always given up due to sedative effects affecting my day. I’m so glad I stuck with it this time, after 3 days the drowsiness has subsided. Haven’t slept this well for YEARS! it does increase your appetite though so I’ll have to curb that. If you’re working please take a few days off and stick with it. Good luck!!

I've been sleeping good and feel refreshed in the morning. Prior to medication i had terrible time sleeping suffered alot due to insomnia, now that i'm sleeping good, i fell more energetic, happy and lively. Consult a doctor for better medication.

I llike this medicine because it helps me sleep and have an appetite, and it’s okay for depression it’s numbs my feeling I don’t feel much of anything when I’m on anti depressants but I’m guessing that’s better than feeling way to much. It’s definitely the best one for me.

If ypu do not have major symptoms of depression ptsd or ocd its notfor you as there are side affe to but for me positives out weight tye negatives I take mirtazapine with fluoextine for severe depression and its lifted it I cam function and I'm no longer struggling to carry put daily tasks . Medication is not for making people happy its for treating a disorder its for taking away the symptoms of poor mental health . But its not for mild symptoms or slight low mood. It's very strong and very specific and works on the neurotransmitters in the brain. Not for the faint hearted !! Read More Read Less

My physician first put me on this medicine to help me with my adderall addiction and help me with the withdrawal from taking adderall for so long. I did notice that it made me really hungry and crave sweets, I would wake up and go straight to the kitchen and just inhale cookies and candy!! It seemed like an uncontrollable compulsion, obviously I did gain a few pounds so that was very discouraging. I have severe depression and anxiety and I noticed that it really helped with managing it but I didn’t like the weight gain so I stopped taking it for a few weeks to a month (the weight gain really bothered me) but I felt like my anxiety and depression was coming back so I started taking it again. This time around I don’t feel the hunger or crave sweets at all, which is odd but great at the same time, so I am going to continue to take this medication. I take it at night because it does make me very drowsy, I try to take it no later than 10pm because if I do, I will be really tired the next day. It definitely does help with depression and anxiety and I have tried a number of worthless medications. I feel like I noticed a difference in my mood pretty quickly after starting it. Definitely worth a try in my opinion. Good luck! Read More Read Less

This medication works almost too well on me I think, it has helped lots with getting me to sleep however I’m experiencing a side effect I’ve never had before where it’s almost impossible to wake up early when I need to. It’s very possible it’s the combination of the other meds I’m on with it (citalopram and elvanse) but nowhere I’ve read about it online has listed this as a side effect so maybe it’s just me, it’s wonderful to be able to get to sleep and without having my usual evening panic attacks but I think I will have to stop taking mirtazipine because no amount of alarms or being shaken and pulled up can keep me awake for longer than 5 minutes until after 10am! I’m sure this would work great for others though. Read More Read Less
