My husband was prescribed Aricept back in November and it's improved his memory/confusion... I noticed in about 2 weeks that he wasn't as confused and had better recall. I know it's not a cure but it helps and it's very obvious right now.

Prescribed for mild cognition deficit (aka "chemo brain") after chemotherapy #3 (my first time in chemotherapy). Appears to work very well from the start. The chemo brain thing is well known amongst patients, but oncologists have little interest in addressing it. The deficit is usually subtle and you would not pick up on it unless it was brought to your attention. It is nonetheless startling to not be able to remember immediately the atomic symbol for potassium ("K") when my potassium level was read to me. Read More Read Less

My father was prescribed this medication and I read the reviews here. I was very underwhelmed by the doctors visit. His doctor thinks it might be vascular dementia but his CT scan did not show signs of a stroke. This medication gave him no side effects luckily. My father also does not take any other medication so i was told this may work quickly because of that reason. His moods are a lot better. He was horrible to be around prior to this medication. We will see how long it lasts as we have a follow up appointment after four months with the doctor that prescribed this medication. Read More Read Less

I started taking this drug almost a year ago and it has been a lifesaver! I don't feel in free fall mode anymore. I'm still functional. My memory and cognitive abilities haven't gotten a lot better, but they haven't gotten worse either. This drug has stabilized me and I would recommend it to anyone in early stages of Alzheimer's.

Began with 5 mg, experienced mild unsteadiness after 2nd day that lasted 2-3 days then subsided. After 30 days, increased to 10 mg. Again experienced unsteadiness, but not major. Immediately noticed improved brain functioning; felt more alert, felt brain was "sharper" and thoughts more positive. Have been more creative since using this drug.

The problem is that when Donepezil came out my husband was swithed from aricept to donepezil. well I LOST HALF A HUSBAND because the generic drug did (does) not work as well as the formulary drug. I just want to THANK YOU for putting out a generic drug that stole my husband.

This drug wasd givin to my 95 Yr. old father it didn't work and they just kept increasing the dosage until they turned him into a zombie. Couldn't walk, couldn't talk, couldn't function, and the just kept giving it to him even after he started having seizures. Did not recover from the third seizure and died 12 days later. Problem was, he didn't have alzheimer's or Dementia. Just an angry old man that didn't want people meddling in his life

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION, and PLEASE DO NOT RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE!!! I am 70 years old, and was prescribed Aricept for a very poor memory.(I didn't even have any other symptoms, just a bad memory)! After 30 days the Dr. increased my dose to 10 Mg. (from 5 Mg.). I HAD BEEN LOSING WEIGHT BECAUSE I NEEDED TO. But it coincided with this new prescription of Aricept. Well, I lost my appetite, and lost 40 pounds in about 33 days, BUT the weight I lost was in mostly "MUSCLE"! I became VERY WEAK, short of breath, losing my Balance, and I even FELL 3 TIMES!(I've NEVER been "CLUMSY", but I AM NOW!- I TOLD MY DR. that I was going to stop taking it IMMEDIATELY! Notice: I'm sure my loss of weight made my reaction to this Med. much WORSE, However if you or an older friend or member of your family is even "close" to being FRAIL, THIS MED COULD MAKE THEM HAVE NO APPETITE, AND THEY COULD GET WEAKER AND WEAKER and WITH "TREMORS"!!! It could possibly make them want to just "GIVE UP"!!! When an elderly person says: I just don't have an appetite, they stop taking in lifes FUEL, and we cannot LIVE without FUEL. Read More Read Less
