I have been taking Marcrobid for years and I do not experience any major side effects. I may occasionally experience softer stools but that's it. Within 12 hours of taking this medication I feel 100%.

I rarely, if ever leave a review for much. But after my experience taking this antibiotic, I am going on as many sites as I can to inform others about this drug. I was prescribed 100mg of Microbid every 12 hours for 7 days for a UTI. I am not sensitive to antibiotics I have taken in the past, i.e. amoxicillin, Cipro, Z-pack. However, this antibiotic made me feel awful. I didn't see any change ...

I was referred to a urologist for frequent urinary tract infections. (I would get one every 4-6 weeks). Couldn't find out the cause, so he put me on this drug to prevent them and it has worked wonders!! I've been taking this for about 3 years now and never any problems with side effects or anything. I take one at bedtime and I don't even have to eat anything with it. It works really great!

so far I haven't had any side affects aside from feeling a little more tired, but I think that would be from my body trying to fight the infection... no nausea or diarrhea, I take it with a glass of milk after breakfast and after supper, but the first day I took it without food and drank a glass of milk and no side affects at all.

I have been on macrobid for 5 months to make sure I don't get any UTI's because my bladder doesn't completely empty. It works really well and I have had no side affects at all.

I read several reviews on this medication before I started it. You guys scared the crap out of me. I was afraid to take it. Luckily, I have had NO side effects whatsoever. I took it as prescribed "with food". No upset stomach, no headache, no diarrhea, no fatigue, nothing. Not sure if everyone took it with food, but it sure worked for me. As far as the dark urine? I drink alot of water and only saw it within hours of taking a pill. Besides that lets me know it's working. Anyone reading about this medication really shouldn't worry, if you take it with food you should be fine. I was.Read More Read Less

I have been sick for 4 weeks with this medicine. I kept getting (or so I thought), urinary tract infections...they put me on macrobid which would fix the infection because my cultures came out clear; however, I was so nauseous, night sweats, chills, severe malaise, exhaustion, horrible headache, backach, that I thought the UTI kept coming back. From my gynecogist, I went to a urologist and then to her partner when she was out. The prescribed Microbid after intercourse...I would be sick all day in bed the next few days. When the urologist said I was fine that I should go to my internist because there was nothing wrong with me with my kidneys, I did so. I spoke with my physicians PA and then the doctor. They both told me there was nothing wrong with me and that I must have experienced a viral infection (that lasted 3 to 4 weeks). I told each and every doctor my symptoms after I took the medicine and NOT ONE said that I was having a severe allergic reaction until I looked it up on line. I was very very relieved that I was not losing my mind; however, I am so disappointed in the medical community.....to have FOUR doctors who could not put 2 and 2 together is extremely disturbing. I WILL NEVER TAKE THIS DRUG AGAIN. I thought I was going to die. And then to be told it was probably just a little viral infection (no cause or reason)...is so upsetting. I am a college-educated person who rarely goes to the doctor and I was made to feel like a hypochondriac. Years ago I took flagyl which resulted in severe joint pain - the doctor said he had never heard of flagyl doing that to anyone and that it was definitely NOT A SIDE EFFECT. I called my druggist who read me the side effects and sure enough join pain was there. What the heck is wrong with these doctors??Read More Read Less

I wear a Foley catheter to drain my paralyzed bladder due to spinal cord injury. I had 3 UTIs in one month this spring. Dr. referred me to a urologist who prescribed Macrobid (forever prophylac use) to prevent future UTIs. Macrobid has indeed done a grear job at preventing any further UTIs, however it has been just about killing me to take this med for the last two months. As I sat here reading all these reviews I was stunned to see the similarity in my symptoms as compared to other users. I get severe heartburn, chest discomfort (and pain), nausea, vomiting (bile), and the worst fatigue imaginable, not to mention the massive headache to go with it all, night after night as I was told to take it at bedtime (yeah right, who can sleep when they feel this ill?). I have been wondering what in the world has been wrong with me for the last few months. It's this darn drug! I really want to stay UTI free due to the unavoidable and necessary use of the indwelling Foley catheter, but OMG, I am so sick from this drug that I am seriously considering stopping this med. It's a shame since it does really, really keep my bladder from getting highly infected, which can be extremely painful. But...at what cost? Isn't there some other way to stay UTI free without feeling so horribly sick with side effects from this drug? Unless you are truly, truly desperate, I cannot in good conscience advocate the use of this highly effective but definitely debilitating drug! STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG IF YOU DON'T WANT SEVERELY HORRIBLE GASTROINTESTINAL PROBLEMS AND HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE ABDOMINAL PAIN! AND, LET'S NOT FORGET THE HORRENDOUS HEADACHE TO BOOT!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication by my OB due to a bladder and UTI infection. After two doses I awoke with severe cramping in both of my calves. A rash also developed on both knees. I assume this is an allergic reaction.

I had a bladder infection and took this antibiotic for 7 days. The next day I had a delayed reaction resulting in terrible hives. I had to got to the ER twice for treatment. Strong doses of Prednisone finally gave me relief.

First I was prescribed Bactrim DS for a UTI.(Im not sure of the specific kind of infection)the Bactrim made me feel nauseus, tired, headache..just really didnt feel like doing anything. Also I think it made me a little depressed. Got off that halfway and now im on this. By reading the reviews sounds like it is going to be the same way. Ive only taken 1 so far a couple hours ago and still feel alright. I'll keep fingers crossed.

I was prescribed Macrobid for a bladder infection. I haven't had any major problems with any other antibiotics, but I became allergic to Macrobid. I ended up in the emergency room to combat my sudden allergy.
