I'm maxed out on metformin (850 mg 3x/day) and glyburide (5mg 4x/day). Januvia, even without the other 2 meds, had my readings in the desired ranges in a day. It's only been 5 days, but so far VERY GOOD! Thanks!

My blood sugar reading soared above 200. Tried letting system get used to meds but never was effective in lowering blood sugar reading in fact reading got worse.

I started out on metaformin once a day, then went to twice a day, levels and A1C started going up again, then add Januvia seemed to help at first then I stared gaining weight and sugar levels and A1C started going up again, added trilicity shots once a week seemed to be doing ok, now the levels and A1C are climbing again. I stopped the Januvia because of the joint pain I was having and the sugar cravings. Been off it about a month and my levels are not any better so heading to the DR again to see what to try next. I think diabetes drugs are a joke the are not made to help for a long time before you have to add another pill or shot to keep things working. Big pharm making some money off from these for sure.Read More Read Less

I started Januvia 100 mg twice a day with Metformin 1000mg. It worked great at first, and brought my sugar levels down, Then I started developing severe lower stomach pain, and was treated for Diverticulitis, which I believe the Januvia caused. During this time my sugar levels started going up, it was like the Januvia just quit working. I was switched to another Medication, but a year later was put back on Januvia, this time I immediately gain 5 pounds after starting it, and have been experiencing swelling and tightness in my hands Read More Read Less

Could not take metformin at all, did not agree with me, even the XR. Started on Levemir then DR added Januvia. Taking for almost two months now and have found my A1c coming down and blood sugar readings improving. Only side effects I have noticed is runny nose and some stomach discomfort that has gradually decreased. Runny nose could be from post virus that I got so will see if that goes away as well.So far this is working for me.I have joint pain but cannot pinpoint if it is from this drug, statins or just old age!Read More Read Less

Couldn't take metformin due to diarrhea and stomach upset. Started Junuvia and it seemed to be working great, my A1C went down. Then I got something similar to psoriasis, swelling of legs and feet, severe fatigue, pain in the feet and legs, back ache constantly, weakness, more things than I can say has happened. My A1C elevated, sugar will not go down below 140 usually a lot higher. Can't see that it is helping at all now, will discuss with dr going off this medicine. All over feel bad, would rather take shots and feel better than this. Read More Read Less

I was able to maintain good fasting and A1C results from 1992-2004 just with diet and exercise. In 2004 I had to start medication and used Metformin in increasing doses from 2004-march 2016 when my A1C shot up from mid 6-7 results to 8.2! In March 2016 I started Januvia until present. The ease of use is wonderful compared to those horse pills of Metformin and stools are normal again for the first time in years... Unfortunately, I have seen no change in my A1C (still at 8.2) and fastings have increased to 140-170. My doctor is going to try Invokana next.Read More Read Less

Been taking Metformin 850's twice a day for about 3 1/2 years now. My glucose has been getting more difficult to manage with diet and exercise. My previous A1c was 6.6. Now it's 7.3. I was surprised it rose so much. Just started Januvia 50mg 1x/day. Only been on for 5 days and already I see results in my daily readings. I am hopeful I don't get any of the side effects mentioned in many of the previous postings. I will follow up in about 30 days.

Started Januvia 2 weeks ago and immediately started experiencing migraines that woke me up 2 to 3 hours earlier than my normal wake-up time, causing me to struggle thru my workday highly fatigued. I've been on metformin 500 mg 2 x daily with no side effects. Januvia has NOT improved my mg/dl numbers. Plan to discuss discontinuation of Januvia and possibly increasing daily metformin dose w/ my Doc.

I started using Januvia 100mg with Metformin 500 mg 2xs a day about 2 weeks ago. My numbers have never gone below 149 and I have severe joint pain. The pain is in a knee that I was already having some issues with, but this exacerbated the issue. I didn't realize until all that time that it could have been a side effect. I am stopping it immediately and will follow up with results.

I have noticed my stomach area feeling sore and my hair changing since I have been on this medicine for 3 months. I rather use my Metformin 1000mg because it flushes me out more than this medicine. I didn't like it.

Januvia has been great for me so far. No side effects and it quickly lowered my glucose levels. The in home self testing my levels have gone from 200-300 to 132-148. Will have my A1C tested by doc next month. It was 8.0. I take 1 100mg tablet a day after dinner. Metformin was a horrible drug for me. Couldnt tolerate at all. Burning legs and arms and severe stomach issues. Stopped a few days after stopping Metformin. Heard you cant stay on Javuvia very long. Dont know why. Will have to see what doc says but ive overall been satisfied with this drug. Read More Read Less

I was taking januvia for high blood sugar levels called pre diabetes . I have been on it for over 5 years . In the last couple of years I have been suffering with very painful ice cold hands most of the time . I went for all kind of tests with no answers . As I have had bad side effects with other drugs I thought I would skip the januvia for a time . After about two weeks off januvia my hands started feeling normal again . It has been a couple of months now without terrible hand pain . I am done with januvia and will try to control sugar levels with diet . Read More Read Less

first my A1C was 5.8 and I was taking Metformin only. My doctor added Januvia 50mg 2 times a day. I could not afford the drug so called drug company who offered the drug for free after meeting their requirements. My A1C is now 5.2 and with exercise I have lost10 lbs. I did have side effects such a fatigue and headaches but the symptoms lasted a short time. As soon as my A1C is stable I will discontinue the medication per my doctor. He checks my blood every three months

Good side effects: weight loss and works good as a laxative. Bad points: cost and lack of effectiveness as a glucose controlling drug
