This medicine works on contact and continues to relieve for several hours. It can be a little messy when you first learn how to use it but it does not stain or leave anything behind. It might burn slightly if you have open skin but it only lasts a few seconds. It is expensive but if you can get it covered by insurance or afford to pay for it it is well worth it.

Little to no relief from this product. Would not recommend. My doctor wishes he never had me try it. I have ended my dealings with him forever.

Have used about 12 canisters over last two years. Product has worked well for me. I have Ulcerative Colitis and it provides relief. I get 15 to 18 applications per canister.

Proctofoam’s delivery system is ridiculous for seniors. Also, the directions are miswritten. The diagram shows you need to attach the syringe to the cartridge, but then it shows that when you raise the plunger to the set dosage, it is unattached. The result is no vacuum is formed between the syringe and the cartridge to draw the medicine out. Assuming the senior figures out the error, a person must have the dexterity of a magician to hold it upright and pump out the medicine. Then after a few applications, the syringe wears out, a vacuum can not be achieved, and the medicine slides out the sides. I found the medicine leaking to be the best way to get the medicine out and then I applied it digitally. Any effectiveness of the Protofoam is nullified by its impossible delivery system. After radiation treatment for prostate cancer I have had rectal bleeding, soreness, passage of mucus and unpredictable bowel function. My urologist prescribed Proctofoam. My insurance (including Medicare part D) would not pay for this expensive medicine. I paid the full price and found Proctofoam very hard to use and ineffective. What a disappointment!

Blue Cross Blue Shield refuses to co-pay on this medication. I am required to pay $35.00 for a very small amount which I can not afford in the future. I am using this medication for radiation burn and bleeding relief following prostate cancer treatment one year ago.
