I have asthma and have had heartburn for years. My doctor treated the asthma with albuterol inhaler and albuterol tablets. Then he told me I had Gerd when I kept getting sick with nausea. The nausea was very intense and included pains in the chest and on my left side. Went to the emergency room a number of times in fear of heart trouble. The formula for making Gelusil has apparently changed because the chewable tablets now are VERY powdery and difficult to chew and swallow. Help! I will no doubt change brands.

Heart and stress tests were done and it was acid reflux and Gerd not heart. I was put on Prilosec for a while and worried because this medicine removes 100% of stomach acid. Then I stepped down to Pepcic AC because this removes about 75% of stomach acid. You need some stomach acid to break down food so if its removed you may be inviting a new problem.I invited a new problem with months use of these 2 on a daily basis taking before eating dinner and I began to have nausea and feeling really tired. tired not to go on but only lay down. I went to GNC and looked for herbal but did not find anything I thought would work. I went to Rite Aid spent over an hour looking, talked to pharmisist and decided on Gelusil tablets. Not as strong as Prilosec, Pepsid but not as weak as tums. The last few days I have taken 2 Gelusil after dinner chewing them and 1 during the day and so far so good. The nausea has seemed to have went away and the sick feeling I have not had. Food needs acid to break it down in stomach. To much acid is no good but no acid is also no good so the Gelusil has seemed to have balanced the acid for me to the right level and I have felt better since starting Gelusil. My plan is if the sickness starts again I will buy a box of 14 day Prilosec and use only that box not go long term on it. Then I will go back on the Gelusil. I will switch back and forth from the 2 meds if needed to control the Gerd but my hope is the Gelusil will control it on its own from here on out. Read More Read Less
