As of 1/1/2019 Hydromet, Cheritussin, Guaiatussin, and Veritussin, as well as Benzonotate (Tesalon Pearles) are no longer on my BCBSIL formulary. I was told 2 reasons: They are trying to curtail the Opioid Epidemic, 2) Current research has found that Cough Medicine or suppressants do not work. I call BULLSHIT. Why should I have to suffer. They work on me. Be forewarned that this is happening across the board on many insurance plans. We all know the over the counter versions of these medicines DO NOT WORK. My drug manager is Prime Therapeutics. They are the ones that come up with the formulary. Read More Read Less

Every year I get a cough that lasts for weeks. This is the ONLY medication that works almost immediately to suppress my cough. I get a refill every year. The OTC syrups are completely useless.

Works quickly and well. First night's sleep uun a while - zapped my cough. Not hideous tasting either.

Usually about two times a year I have bronchitis, which then turns into coughing, making me unable to sleep. If I take Hydromet along with antihistamine and Mucinex I can get through these bouts; but I have to have Hydromet to control the cough. Now that it's a Class II it's more difficult to get.

Screaming headache, threw up after taking it one day. Dr told me this had "codeine" in it, when in fact it's hydrocodone (the active ingredient in Vicodin) BIG difference (one is Sched II, one is Sched IV). Really felt "out of it". It worked great for cough but the side effects are too much. Tastes horrible!!

Gave me 4 screaming headaches whenever I took it in 24 hour period. Used 5ml syringe given with product. Gave me a stomach ache. Did solve my cough problem though really well and knocked me out so I could sleep but, couldn't take it more than the first 24 hours, because my head hurt more than my sore throat now.

After taking a teaspoon of hydromet cough syrup; I went to bed and woke up the next morning with the room spinning, I was hospitalized for 3 days, diagnoised with vertigo;19 months later with a army of doctors and therapists, I have yet to fully recover, it has been a total nightmare.

After being diagnosed with bronchitis, I went through three other different prescription cough medicines. None of them worked for me, but the Hydromet sure did.

Wonderful relief from coughing but intense itching over my upper body caused me to stop using this medication.

been taking this for about a week and it helps sooo much. i can actually breathe instead of wheezing and coughing up a lung all day. Lasts a few hours. then repeat. helps so much in the mornings when it is the worst to deal with. kinda expensive tho if you dont have insurance. 15 with and 50 dollar without.

The cough medicine gets in my system quickly and the coughing stops. It doesn't last quite the 6 hours but have read you can take it every 4 hours so I plan on asking my dr about that. Overall it is very effective!

Prescribed Hydromet for allergies (throat tighten). Immediately felt dizzy, weak. I have borderline high blood pressure (doctor knew) and my blood pressure went sky high, 2 weeks later still out of control. Terrible drug!

This was prescribed to me for a dry cough. It stops my cough but it makes me very nauseous, light-headed, dizzy, and gives me the shakes. I would recommend taking it and going to bed.

OMG - taking Hydromet DID take care of my cough but it also kept me up all night with anxiety and racing thoughts and when I did fall sleep, gave me very vivid nightmares. I actually ended up calling in sick at work the next day. This stuff is going down the drain. I'm going back to my old friend, Nyquil.

Medication stopped the cough, but it's 2:00 A.M. I am sleepy and cannot go to sleep. I noticed my breathing to be very shallow and I have been tossing and turning due to itching all over.

So far this med has stopped my painful cough. i only started it last night.

The moment I took this cough syrup, it took my cough away for a few hours. It also relieved the pain in my throat and chest from coughing so much. I don't have any side effects except the obvious drowsiness. I have bronchitis so this was a big help.

I didnt cough any after taking it however,it caused me to be unable to sleep. I literally saw every hour on the clock all night. The next day I had a headache.

this stuff helped my cough,but kept me awake most of the night. would only take if had to during day
