I've been on Tegretol for 18 yrs. For seizures, been seizure free for that lenght of time. After reading reviews, maybe Tegretol is what causes me to be tired alot of the time. I have trouble with memory and recalling words in conversation with people.

I was given Tegretol after having several mild seizures and after just one week of taking the drug I had my first grand mal seizure. In the space of the 2 months I was on the drug I had 4 grand mal seizures, 15 fitting seizures, 8 stiffness seizures and my absences increased to multiple times an hour. After this my neurologist changed my prescription to Keppra and after some experimenting with dos...

I've been on this drug since I was 7 or 8, about 24 years. I've never had any side effects (that I know of). I take 600mg XR in the morning and in the evening. I can go a few extra hours without it being a problem, but after about 3-4 hours I'll start having seizures. Can't say anything bad about it.

i took this for bipolar depression, and had a severe reaction to it. the problem is, i felt absolutely wonderful. as good as i've felt in years, feaceful and happy, walking on air, but it only lasted a few hours b/c the reaction was too dangerous. i've tried oodles of rx's since and never got that good feeling back. too bad, but for bipolar, i higly suggest it. just read the warnings first.

600mg per day has made me feel like "zombie". Tired & no energy which is totally out of character for me. Have suffered a few mild seizures since heart valve replacement last August. Seizures apparently are a side effect of the surgery but I was never told of the danger. am not allowed to drive now so my life, basically, is on hold. Just horrible feeling & result.

Brain tumor surgery (Meningioma) in 1986. When I take my Tegretol consistently on the same daily schedule I can never worry about a seizure. If I mix up my my set time I will have a problem with having a seizure occasionally. I have my iphone alarm set to remind me daily.

I have been diagnosed with TN six months ago. My GP prescribed Tegretol immediately. I take 200mg in the morning and 400mg in the evening. I flared up so GP increased dosage to 400mg in the morning for a total of 800mg daily. My pain has subsided but still have difficulty eating and brushing teeth. My concern with this drug is that it makes me "zombie like". My days are a haze and cannot accomplish much. I am not able to attend work which creates anxiety.

This was the first drug I was given after being diagnosed epileptic. Right away, I suffered a lot of side effects. Felt sick to my stomach, twitchy eyes, shaky, unstable. About 3 weeks in to the treatment, I had an allergic reaction. My body broke out in an aweful rash, head to toe. I suffered extreme burning and itching, redness, swelling, and some of my skin was covered in blisters. After a week of being treated for said reaction, I am still not completely better.

I started running a high fever within a few days of starting this medication. I called my Dr and was told this was not a side effect. I continued this medication. I started vomiting a few days later with higher fever. I ended up in the hospital for ten days with hepatitis and panceritis. I also had a terrible rash that itched and had large raised areas. I almost died. I then developed c diff from the antibiotics and went back in the hospital for another five days. If it had not been for my local internist taking care of me instead of my neurologist from a large medical center I had previously consulted I would be dead now. If you start any symptoms stop this medicine ASAP. If my neurologist had advised me correctly I would have not had this bad experience. Read More Read Less

First started taking at 200 mg twice a day for Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia. Within three days I was experiencing nausea, vomiting, dizziness, wobbly on my legs, weird eye movements - seemed like each eye was bouncing around independently, and couldn't focus my eyes, but the constant pain was somewhat diminished, for the first time in almost a year and stabbing attacks almost disappeared. Had to cut dose back to 25mg twice a day due to side effects (which brought pain back) and increase by 50mg/day weekly until up to 600mg/day. This dosage just about eliminated stabbing pain and reduced constant pain to tolerable level except for exacerbations, but Dr was hesitant to increase. He added Lyrica which helped a little more, but over past 6 months pain has continued to increase. Just had dosage increased to 800mg daily and experiencing minor side effects again, but pain is easing somewhat. Hope to tough it out and pray for more pain relief. Constant gnawing face pain is becoming unbearable.Read More Read Less

have been on every mood stabilizer manufactured in the past 30 years. Tegretol had the least side effects, quickest adjustment time and smoothest stability. Cheap too!

I started taking tegretol one week ago, and have experienced some mild dizziness, shortness of breath, and memory difficulty. However, I woke up this morning to find my left breast (site of cancer surgery and radiation two years ago) covered with an angry-looking bumpy red rash, and more pain than is usual in the breast. Of course, it is Memorial Day weekend, and both my neurologist and PCP are off until Tuesday. I have suspended the drug for now. If the rash worsens, I'll go to the ER.

400 mg doses of both Tegretol + Seroquel at 7:30 pm. From about 11:30 pm, 8 hours good sleep with reduced nightmare severity + frequence. Increased + positive social engagement with family + friends. Seldom afternoon naps.

My husband was prescribed tegretol xr (600 mg. per day) for a seizure that he supposedly had over 10 yrs. ago. It was previously diagnosed as a T.I.A. He's been taking this med for 10 yrs. He is very unstable walking. It is affecting his vision & concentration. He used to be an avid reader & now he doesn't read at all. He has red & purple bruise marks under his skin on his hands. He's always sad & never ever smiles. He's afraid that if he stops taking it, he'll have a stroke.
