Had a bad cold.Due to my asthma and smoking-compromised pulmonary functions, these conditions almost always lead to bronchitis and a lingering (2-3 weeks, untreated) bacterial infection. This happened, and I have lots of congestion in sinuses and chest and a bad ache in my right ear, and am nearly deaf in that ear. Have no insurance or money for Drs. or prescription, but found an unopened bottle of Otobiotic in the medicine chest rx'ed for my stepdaughter in 1987. Began using it. I figured gram - = broad spectrum, so it will kill both most gram+ and- bacteria, and the steroid would at least relieve the inflammation in my eardrum. Also had hopes that maybe the polymixin would help to knock out remaining bugs in lungs and sinuses, though was unsure if enough would be absorbed to reach those areas. So far, no noticeable relief after 4 days. Maybe this 'scrip was too old, or maybe my reasoning was faulty. Oh, the travails of the working poor! Better living through chemistry.
