According to my doctor, this drug is perfect for me. Zioptan does not contain any preservatives, as I am allergic. It does cause dryness and a burning sensation. It has lowered my pressure beautifully.

I have been on it for 7 days and am quitting this drug. First, my nose got stuffy, and I didn't know that this was a side effect. Now my sinuses are messed up and I am getting earache and headaches, which happens when I get too stuffed up. Each day the stuffiness gets worse. Next, I see flashes of light, and my eyes are bothering me in that they are too dry. And I have been really fatigued, but I ...

I too as others have described tried all of the other classes of glaucoma drops. Zioptan was my last alternative. Had glaucoma surgery and cataract removal which lowered pressures. Now taking zioptan again to maintain pressures and am experiencing anxiety. Had been off for awhile and take no other meds. So I am suspicious that it is the cause. It also caused me to have a lingering cough when I had a respiratory infection. It was so bad I quit zioptan and became better quickly. Curious if anyone has slight anxiety or anxiousness from this drug. I have never had anxiety issues. Read More Read Less

My use is: Alphagan p both eyes, twice a day and Zioptan both eyes, at bed time. Has worked beautifully reducing my eye pressure. If there is a side effect, it is w/ my balance, but at my age, I understand that can be a problem w/ out medications.

Within three days this medication caused lightening like flashes in my eye. It also caused a big floater to appear. The worst thing it did was cause the vitreous gel to pull away and caused more floaters, severe headaches, eye pain, blurred distance vision, and light sensitivity. Horrible stuff. They say it’s preservative free. If that is the case then why does it cause cataract formation? There had to be something in it that is causing so many problems.

Zioptan was the first eye drop my eye doctor prescribed to lower my eye pressure. I first noticed groin pain and then upper thigh tingling and numbness. The upper thigh became shooting pain and electric shock sensations. I was not able to sleep at night due to the electric shocks going on in my upper thigh. I stopped Zioptan and the electric shocks went away along with the numbness, I still have soreness in the upper thigh muscle but seems to be improving. I would like to find a natural remedy to lower my eye pressure instead of putting poison in my eyes. Read More Read Less

I’ve only been on it about a week, but thus far it seems to be agreeing with me much better than many others I’ve tried. My eyes are red, but no pain or itching.

Like other glaucoma eye drops, this medication does have various side effects that affect people differently who use this medication. I have tried many other glaucoma meds that did not work and/or I had more severe adverse side effects which made my eye problems worse, and prompted my doctor to prescribe Zioptan. I have alot of drug allergies, and I find that the preservatives and other excipients in medications is a big factor that causes many adverse reactions. This is the Only (preservative-free) glaucoma drug that has worked well for me in reducing my IOP, and the only med that I can tolerate fairly well despite some annoying side effects such as: dry (gritty sensation) eyes, occasional blurry vision, eye redness and irritation, photosensitivity, intermittent eye pain & fatigue, occasional palpitations. All of these side effects came about with this drug, which is only one in a long list of glaucoma meds tried. A few minutes of racing heart/shortness of breath after dosing along with immediate stuffiness in nasal passages which lasts all night. Severe dry eye-middle of night and throughout morning of next day. Blurry distance vision. Severe Dry throat and chapped lips even using punctual occlusion method after administering drop. Caused cataracts in both eyes within 6months of starting.

No side effects at all. Very effective in lowering pressure when two other drops did not. No iris discoloration, but extra lash growth. Only disappointment is the volume in the vial is more than one dose and you are not supposed to use a vial for more than one days treatment - oh, and the cost since there is no generic yet.

I developed iritis after the second dose. It was extremely painful. My eye felt like I was being stabbed with an icepick. Severe headache and light sensitivity as well. Co-workers said I looked like a vampire from the severe redness it caused.
