Please watch out for these bulletin boards. I am a very sensitive person, health-obsessed and health food and everything, and I have had nothing but a good experience- no side effects to my surprise. Just relief. Also had in-depth conversations with doctors about generics vs. main brand and there is no difference. I have switched between Kariva and Viorele etc and no change. I love this drug.! The worst birth control I have ever used in my entire life. I used to take Azurrette and, like others, CVS switched it out for this new kind. I have been taking it for a little over three months and it is TERRIBLE. My first period on it lasted for over two weeks when normally it is just a few days long. It was so heavy and not at all what I was used to. I also experienced migraines and heavy mood ...

This birth control has made my life an absolute living hell. My acne has gotten so bad, to a point where I have had to helplessly seek aid from a dermatologist, I have gained weight to an uncomfortable extent, and this pill has emotionally wrecked me. I am constantly sad, and every little thing just adds to a pile of depression. I know that pill is taking my emotions to an extreme, and has caused serious insecurity and loss of self-identity. Though I sound like I am overexaggerating, I assure you I am not. I am very disappointed in my doctor's decision to put me on this as a 17 year old female. She told me this drug would not cause seriously noticeable side effects, but the reviews and personal experience refute that. Going on this pill was one of the worst decisions I have made as a teenage girl.Read More Read Less

I took this product for exactly one week. In that time each night I would get horrible stomach pains that kept me awake or woke me after I was asleep. It hurt so bad all I could do was pace the hall or pray for relief. No pain reliver touched it. It would go away around 4 am. It felt like I had gorged myself to the point I was going to burst. I took things like prilosec and alka-seltzer trying to find relief. Nothing helped. I never had any issues with my stomach prior to taking this. The day I stopped taking it I was able to sleep through the night without violent stomach pain. Other side effects include: extreme cystral type acne, rapid weight gain, heartburn and indigestion. They say it can cause "bloating" but it inflated my stomach to the point I felt it might rupture. Severe side effects is putting it mildly.Read More Read Less

I was taking Kariva and my pharmacists switched me to Viorele. In taking Viorele for two months I have felt aweful. I have experience the worst side effects to these pills. Never in my life had I felt so bad; bloated, irritable, emotional, stomach upset... what more can a woman experience? I definitely do not recommend it to anyone.

I was also on Kariva for 5 years and have not had any problems with it... My pharmacist also changed me to Viorele and I have been spotting now for almost 2 weeks. In the 10 years I've been on birth control I've NEVER had break through bleeding. The side effects are also terrible! I've had migraines/ headaches daily, moodiness, bloating, weight gain, and I don't feel like myself. I am headed to the pharmacy today to get some answers... I am NOT Happy with this medication!

I had been taking Kariva for 2 months and seemed to be doing well on it. A couple of weeks ago my pharmacy gave me Viorele instead claiming it was the same. It's not! I have been trying different birth control pills in an effort to halt my spotting between periods, and after 2 months of being fine, I'm worse than ever. Only a week and half into this new generic and the bleeding is not only back, but I'm having cramping and nausea also. My doctor is switching me back to Kariva. Don't let your pharmacy tell you they don't have it, when pushed they told me they could order it.Read More Read Less

Like many others, my pharmacy switched me automatically from Kariva, claiming it was no longer made, and making it seem like there were no other options. I took viorele for 3 months, during which I became EXTREMELY irritable, moody, depressed, and emotional. I am extremely angry at my pharmacy for lying to me. Won't be going back to them.

Viorele caused terrible side effects- nausea, moodiness (cried at putting my makeup on wrong, got stressed over spilling food), bloating, diarrhea, cramps, dizziness, lethargy and a litany of other issues. I was on Mircette when the pharmacy switched me to Viorele. Pharmacists say they are identical but they're NOT- the active ingredient is the same, but the QUALITY is lower. The "fillers" (inactive ingredients), which help your body absorb the meds, are also of lesser quality. This alters the medication's therapeutic effect in a BIG WAY. If you experience problems with generics but not with brands, it's NOT in your head. If your insurance won't cover brand names, tell your doctor that you have terrible side effects from the generic, and he/she will order BRAND name only. Insurance usually must comply when the doctor says that. Read More Read Less

I am so glad I found these other reviews on this product. When I went to the pharmacist over a week ago, they handed me Viorele instead of Kariva. I have been taking Kariva for 6 years and have had no side effects. After taking viorele, for over a week, I have had upset stomach, bloating, and heavy spotting. I know the pharmacist told me that they changed manufactures and that these pills are no different from each other, but my body is telling me otherwise!

I want to give a warning to anyone that takes this drug. I took kariva for years and had great results but then I tried this drug and within the 4 days of use I gained 5 pounds, was crying and angry all the time as well as sleeping more. The pharmacy said it was the same hormone level as kariva but I don't believe thats true because inactive ingredidents which were claimed to be the only difference cant't make that much of a change with your body in one week. I'm back on kariva and I have my normal life back.Read More Read Less

ugh...so glad I just found all these other reviews. I went to bed last night wondering what in the hell was wrong with me lately. I've been so irritable & bloated lately, and I just couldn't figure out why until today! haha... I was given this without warning (can't remember my last BC pill name), but I needed a 1-mo refill to last me until my annual with my doc. I noticed the packaging was a bit different and that it was still generic for Mircette so I didn't think anything of it. A few days later I had annoying headaches, last weekend I had terrible stomach cramps/tummy issues (fine otherwise), and now, I feel like I'm a million pounds! SO bloated, even in the morning when I wake up...it's as if I just ate Thanksgiving dinner - it's really not okay. Called doc today to have them refill the previous pill I was on - I want NOTHING to do with Viorele ever again!!! Read More Read Less

I was taking Kariva for Years! Of course the manufacturer was sold and no longer makes Kariva. To my surprise, I found Viorele in my prescription bag, without any explanation from the pharmacy nonetheless. I hadn't experienced any side effects from Kariva. I have been taking viorele for 2 weeks and have been sick ever since! Nausea, headache, etc...yet the pharmacy and my OBGYN (whom I love & trust) have told me it is the exact same ingredients. Then why have I been sick? Too coincidental I think! I'm never sick and barely visit the dr, nor am I neurotic! 3 cycles of this nausea? Really? I would rather spit out a kid! I do not recommend this drug at all!!!! BS it is the exact same drug as Kariva! I suppose the side effects are all in my head then. C'est La Vie! Read More Read Less

I took this drug for one month only because my pharmacy discontinued Kariva. The side effects are awful and include intermittent headaches, dryness, and just an overall feeling of sickness. I know that users are advised to take birth control for three months to allow the body time to adjust; however, I have no desire to continue this drug. I would NOT recommend this drug.

I was originally taking mircette. Then pharmacy switched to Kariva, which was effective, but caused vaginal dryness. Viorele has caused dryness and weight gain.

I have taken Kariva for years, but the manufacturer recently changed over to Viorele. I have never had any issues with side effects with any drug, even the harshest of medications. Within 24 hours of taking Viorele, I began to feel nauseous, tired, weak, bloated, have intermittent headaches, and just feel awful in general. I rarely get sick and I can think of no other reason besides this medication that could be causing these side effects. I have felt like this for several days now. The pharmacist advised me that there are no differing side effects from Kariva. I was told at the pharmacy that I would be receiving this new medication in place of Kariva. I highly advise speaking with your doctor before going on this drug. It has definitely been a terrible experience for me. Is anyone else having the same issues?Read More Read Less
