I have been taking this generic form of Celexa for ten years, next month. I was hesitant about getting on any mood med, but it has helped me tremendously. I am here writing this review... that's the point, I'm here. Diagnosed with major depression at 19, I was prescribed this pill by my family physician after several doctors visits relating to depression and its toll on my mind and body. It took m...

I have been on this medication for a little over 2 years and I have absolutely zero energy, zero sex drive, zero motivation to get out of bed most days. Finally switching to a new medication next week. Fingers crossed it will be better than citalopram!

I can not believe this crap drug got by the govmt folk. Who did they pay off? The side effects are atrocious. Tinnitus, difficulty breathing, shaking, tremors, appetite loss (I have short bowel, 3 days without food with this drug) . After smartly stopping this poison, I walking 2 streets away for groceries, my chest was extremely compressed, and I could barely breathe. On the return, 1 street away, I fell to the ground gasping, food everywhere. One more street, and I could not go up the stairs. I dropped the food, sat on the lowest stair, and was violently shaking. It took ovrr 1 hour to enter my home. For something this bad, money was exchanged somewhere. I will advise my dr to remove this from this prescription list. Pure poison. Read More Read Less

Citalopram has been so good for chilling me out. I initially took it for anxiety, but realized relatively soon afterwards that I was so much more content with life on this medication. I don't suffer boredom anywhere near as badly as I used to, and boredom for me led me to do things like drink too much alcohol which I have since completely removed from my life. Almost 4 years now as a non-drinker. My wife has noticed huge improvement regarding my general level of contentment. One draw back; I'm almost always tired. It definitely makes me more fatigued even when I get to bed before 10pm each night. That said, the alternative to not being on Citalopram is far worse for me so it's a side effect I'll happily put up with.Read More Read Less

Be patient. This medicine messed with my sleeping I kept waking up throughout the night and had a hard time sleeping. I started sleeping with the light off and TV off and it helped but sleep was still not great. I also switched to taking the medicine at about 6am instead of 5pm this was recommended to me by my pharmacist. About 2 months into taking the medicine it finally stopped affecting my sleep SO HANG IN THERE. This medicine was the best thing I ever did in m life. I feel so NORMAL. I can go out of the house again and do things im laughing, joking, and being myself. No more depression or anxiety. I still have some anxiety maybe 1 time per month or less but compared to every waking min of every day it has improved 99.9999999999%. If you are struggling with depression and anxiety give it a try. First 2 weeks of side effects on 10mg were AWFUL! Severe muscle and body aches, tiredness, nausea and total loss of appetite. About week 3 these effects tapered off and my energy and attitude improved greatly. I am now on 20 mg and feel like I’m starting to crawl outta the hole I was in. Things aren’t perfect but this medication has made many of my anxiety symptoms calm down to a manageable level fairly quickly, panic attacks much more mild and sleep has improved overall. I am anticipating feeling extra good in the next few weeks. Read More Read Less

Started taking this medication over a year ago due to aweful general anxiety disorder mainly manifesting in vile physical symptoms such as palpitations, severe hot flashes, tinnitus and intrusive thoughts that led to depression. Started on 10mg two months after taking sertraline for 4 days prescribed by my doctor and not being able to cope with the bad reaction to sertraline. Citalopram has really helped me live a normal life free from daily Agitation and other symptoms, I still have the odd physical symptom such as the odd palpitation and random heat localised hot flush but I pay no attention to them, overall the medication has helped me feel somewhat normal again.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Citalopram for just over a year. I take it for anxiety and depression. to citalopram 10 mg. I had very mild side effects with Citalopram. This starting dose did help with me with sleeping and anxiety but only a little bit with depression. My dose was increased to 20mg, which did improve my symptoms. After about 6 months I started to feel a bit flat and lacking in energy. The dose was increase to 30mg for a month trial , which did help, but reduced back to 20mg partly as I wary of increasing the dose. I recently saw my doctor for a review . I was still feeling very flat & low energy. I'm in the process of increasing to 40 mg over a couple of weeks. I can't believe how much better I feel. Heaps more energy, feeling really good - I hope it continues. . We discussed the 40 mg dose as this is the max dose, as I know higher doses can affect the heart. I don't think I realised how severely depressed I was, even though I could barely functionRead More Read Less

I’ve been on Citalopram twice over the years mainly for anxiety. They really work well. Horrible side effects for the first few weeks. I read some people knock them, to get the best out of them you need to change your lifestyle also, such as exercising, a good diet, meditation and stop drinking alcohol.

I been taking 10mg for 3weeks and my family did see an improvement in my moods etc. I then was put to 20mg which I have been on for 5weeks now. I take the tablet in the evening but I am struggling to sleep. In the morning I am always tired and feel nauseous and shaking which then leads to me being more anxious. I spoke to my doctor he won't look at my dosage as he thinks that is not the problem. Anyone take this medication in the morning.

I am a 25 year old female and this is my second time using citalopram. It has been around a year and a half since my last prescription of citalopram (20mg) however, after stressful life events and a full on workload, my anxiety got increasingly unbearable and around 6 weeks ago I phoned the doctor and they prescribed citalopram again. For the first week I took 10mg before increasing to 20mg…. I’ll be honest, my side effects were not great. I felt sick quite often, struggled with insomnia and felt significantly more anxious and at times scared to be left alone. I did not feel suicidal, however, the anxiety began to scare me. I also experienced frequent panic attacks and found it difficult to go to work and do daily things such as drive. Although my side effects did not feel the best, THEY DID NOT LAST. The tablets definitely began to kick in by week 4 and I am so happy with how I feel now. Exercise and keeping busy helped me through the difficult weeks…. If you are unsure, read up on the positive effects on mental health after just 10-30 minutes of exercise a day. Today, I feel calmer and able to go to work. I am able to meet up with friends and go to the supermarket. I feel more confident and I haven’t had a panic attack in weeks. I am back to sleeping well like I was before and my appetite is back. I feel overall like I am back to how I felt before. For anyone considering citalopram, I can honestly say that without this my life would have been an ongoing battle with my mind. Despite a slight reluctance to take tablets, online CBT and exercise/keeping busy were NOT enough. Sometimes tablets for a period of time are NEEDED. Remember, the difficult feelings DO pass… give it time :)Read More Read Less

I have been using this medication for over 10 years and it works very well in dealing with anxiety. I am a chronic pain sufferer which causes anxiety and depression at times knowing I have to go through life and not get any better even if another back surgery is performed (5th). This med keeps my emotional state in a comfortable place and reduces the anxiety of dealing with that bone a daily basis. Thank you.
