At least three time the Redihaler has expelled the medicine when I open the cap- it does not seem to be breath activated! I am concerned when I fly- how does change in pressure impact the way it works? I will be going from 7000 feet to 500 feet- I'm not sure I trust this med being dispensed this way.

Qvar is not being dispensed properly. Sometimes it does not come out at all and sometimes it keeps coming out after I have already inhaled. This new design has too many malfunctions when dispensing the medication. This is definitely a health risk and very concerning to me because I have severe asthma and messing with my dosing is dangerous. Not to mention this medication is too expensive to be not working properly.

The redihaler canister fails too often!! This medication is very expensive (no insurance) and very frustrating when you can’t get the medication when needed! Plus, you can’t get a replacement therefore my health is at risk and it costs more $$$! Just change the canister!!

Self actuating inhaler stopped working with over 40 doses left. Terrible ‘improvement’ on the design. Everyone should switch to Flovent until Qvar stops forcing us to use a defective delivery system. Give me back the old school inhaler.

Same as everyone else. The medication fails with about 30 puffs remaining. Extremely expensive $220 and frustrating. Poor design should be class action.

QVar worked to improve lung function and blood oxygen. However, it caused blurred vision, cloudy vision, and macular edema. If it hadn't impacted vision, I'd still take it. Cost was reasonable, seemed to work. But vision is too important, to use it. Vision damage to both eyes, worse in left. Had to discontinue use.

My moderately severe asthma has been very well controlled using QVar 100mcg 'press and breathe' inhaler for more than 10 years in the United Kingdom. Since moving to the U.S I have been forced to switch to a breathe activated device since this is the only option available. The medication is exceptionally effective. The device is seriously flawed and malfunctions after a varying number of actuation. Today I had to contact TEVA pharmaceutical as a FOURTH device malfunctioned and stopped dispensing the medication despite the counter numbers reducing. As with each previous incident my asthma symptoms worsen, peak flow readings drop and I require frequent use of my preventer to breathe. I have written to TEVA to ask them to make the same excellent functioning press and breathe device that I used in UK available in the USA. I asked the representative,Saba, in Quality Assurance Service department today what was the outcome of my previous complaint in July 2023 (when the device stopped working ). She told me the complaint was forwarded to the manufacturing department. When I told her that I had seen tens of similar complaints here, she said I could not contact that department directly only said they were "aware of the issue and they were "working" on it." I did point out that the solution seems very simple and there was not much to work on... simply produce a press and breathe inhaler for use in the USA! It is unconscionable that an asthma preventer device has this repeated issue. So far my asthma reliever has been sufficient till effects of the replacement preventer began to work. However I could be overseas and not in a position to obtain a replacement from my local pharmacy. And the result may even be fatal. Take heed TEVA before someone dies. Read More Read Less

An update to my earlier post. I called the pharmaceutical company TEVA and the rep initiated a conference call between them, my pharmacy and me and TEVA will be supplying me with two Qvar redihalers over the next week or two. They also instructed me to clean the little opening where the medicine comes out with a tip. They wanted me to leave the redihaler in an envelope with the original box for a FedEx driver to pick up but I wasn’t going to be home. My pharmacy won’t have the redihaler available until next week so I have to figure out how to get as much of the medication out of it until then. I do carry a rescue haler with me in case I need it. Like most, the medication itself works but the dispensing mechanism fails with about 30 doses out of 120 left. I took a redihaler back to the pharmacy and they told me I had to call the manufacturer myself and in turn the pharmacy would be reimbursed for giving me a new one. Never had this particular problem until about two or three years ago. I have called my doctor to see if I can get a different inhaler that works the same way but without the headache of dealing with my “redifailure”.

How has this not been recalled by the FDA? The medication works great, but the RediHaler delivery system is highly defective. It's supposedly designed to help people who may have trouble with fine motor skills and breath timing, but people with those issues may also have cognitive impairments and not even know that they're not getting any medication. They're going without the treatment of a potentially life-threatening condition. Go back to the old actuator, or take it off the market and stop putting lives at risk and ripping people off.Read More Read Less

Loved QVAR inhaler before it became QVAR Redihaler. It is the worst joke to play on asthmatics when you can’t properly develop a canister to deliver a great medication correctly. The company could save money and just use someone else’s idea for an albuterol canister. With a new Redihaler, most times I will get at least 10 good puffs out after the first surprise puff before the canister fails on me. The medication starts to smell and taste strange. Then nighttime asthma. Then I realize it’s time to open up the canister and manually pump it. With someone else’s advice in substituting the Redihaler canister with an albuterol canister, that seems to work perfectly. Even though it doesn’t stay put in there, the puffs come out strong and deliver quite well. And no, the Alvesco did not work for me.Read More Read Less

When it works, it's great. But sometimes, despite the counter going down, I can tell by sound, the feeling of the puff, and the effects on my body, medicine is not being dispensed.

My Qvar Redihaler failed to dispense medicine. I fixed the dispenser. I unscrewed the top 1/2 of the unit, removed the cartridge, washed the dispenser where the cartridge inserts. Reinstalled the cartridge, screwed the top half of unit back onto the body and the unit works great. If this remedy didn’t work for you, I took the cartridge out and put it into my albuterol dispenser and that worked great too.

The medication works, the delivery system is horribly flawed. I’m not an idiot, and keep most medications completely out of my children’s reach. However, this is a twice daily med, and I need to keep it in my purse in order to be sure I have it with me when I need to use it. There is no child proofing on it. A single dosage is prepared each time the cap is clicked open and delivered when you take a breath. My issue is that I have a child who is a major rule-tester. I keep my purse away from him as much as possible but several times I’ve found him playing with this inhaler, intrigued by the clicking sound of the lid. I can only imagine how many double/triple/etc doses I’ve taken because he’s opened and shut the lid multiple times in a row. I do discipline him, but he’s a tester and this issue continues. I can keep it locked up at home, but being a twice daily med, I’m not always home when I need to use it, so it usually lives in my purse which equals accessibility. Why is there not some kind of child proofing on it like 99% of other medications? Or at least a way to release potential double doses without breathing them all in at once? Or you could just take the child out of the equation and realize that someone could easily open it, become distracted, set it back down before using, then come back and open it again and give themselves a double dose. I just really hate this design! Also, it’s just really hard to tell if you’ve actually gotten a dose or not, without any accompanying sound of the delivery. And I’ve had several that have malfunctioned over the years. Just go back to the traditional delivery system:/ Read More Read Less

I used the metered inhaler for years with no issue. I have had nothing but problems with the RediHaler. It is horrible - stops dispensing about half way through. Seems absolutely against the "keep it simple" rule. Must have been to keep their patent going? I'm done...looking for something else which is a shame as I really like the medication itself.

My inhaler always malfunctions. It stops dispensing the product with usually half the doses left. The medicine itself is ineffective as well. It takes multiple puffs compared to what one puff of flovent did.

This is my second breath actuated qvar radihaler. Had to change out the first because despite reading and following all instructions, it would not dispense any medication and the reading was still at 120 with a visible black dot above it despite trying it for 4-5 days. Tried it in front of the pharmacist who then gave me another one thinking the first was defective. The second one has the same issue as the first, no medicine dispensed, no change in number on window. By God's grace, my insurance covers it, but at a retail price of $308, this is completely unacceptable!! Tried calling the 888 qvar number on the box, but they are closed on the weekend. My only other option is to contact my doctor to prescribe me an alternative if available. Very frustrating!Read More Read Less

My child was prescribed a new QVAR inhaler last month. She is now on her third inhaler and third one like the first two did NOT work. She never received any medication from any of the inhalers. Her Doctor has now prescribed a new type and thankfully it works. I am now trying to work with QVAR to get reimbursed for the $168.00 copayment I had to pay. Unsuccessful to date.
