I had a lot of problems with ortho tri-cyclin lo. The most troublesome being severe dizziness and constant nausea. These symptoms were so intense the first week of taking the pill, I thought I obtained a virus or disease. After three months of no birth control and not getting my period, my gynocoligest gave me a trial pack of brand name Loestrin. Loestrin was not only better than ortho tri-cyc...

First couple weeks were OK. By the time I got a week into the second pack I wanted to try something different. Honestly, I felt like I was pregnant! Woke up hot all the time, ALWAYS tired, breast tenderness, constipation, and I lost weight which was bad cause I'm already underweight. When I stopped taking it that all went away within a couple days. Just started trying something else.

I rated this medication as being effective, because it did what it was designed to do (prevent pregnancy), but it stopped my periods...for months. so i contantly thought i was pregnant...i felt horrible, had frequent headaches, etc. i tried it for 4 months, and not any better.

This is the third type of BC pill I have been put on, and probably my least favorite. I have been on it now for over a year and have recently starting noticing some unpleasant side effects. I have began experiencing regular, unpleasant headaches, little or no period (for about 6 mos.), tingling & numbness in my legs and arms, depression & mood swings, and decreased sex drive, among other things. I recently decided to get off of it completely because it has starting interfering with my daily life and work and I feel I have no other choice. With every form of birth control I have tried I have experienced bad side effects and I'd have to say the worst I've experienced yet was from this particular pill. New users beware.Read More Read Less

Loestrin was not only better than ortho tri-cyclin lo, but it made me feel better than I do normally. My period that first month successfully came painlessly. The month I was on Loestrin I had no mood swings or an increase in anxiety. My acne seemed improved as well. I have now switched to Microgestin Fe 1/20, the generic version of Loestrin. Although there should be no differences between the generic and non-generic versions, I noticed some differences. The first is that there are 7 placebo pills in the generic version, in contrast to 5 in the Loestrin. The second symtom I noticed was an increased appetite, and slight weight gain, 1-2 pounds. This weight gain was good for me, because I'm underweight. I also noticed more painful cramps 2 days before my period, and 2 days of my period. I am currently on my third month of microgestin, or my 4th month of the estrogen/progestin mixture. My acne has almost completely cleared. I break out for 3 days before my period. And then it starts to clear up. My period lasts for 5-6 of the 7 placebo days. I have reduced cramping compared to not taking any birth control. I consider my body to be sensitive to most drugs. Hope this information helps. Read More Read Less
