I have been on paxil for 15 years and it has been wonderful in keeping me from having panic attacks and generalized anxiety. I have no side effects and it helps me have a joyful, positive life!

I have clinical depression. I've been on amitryptyline for 25 years and have been very happy with it. My doctor put me on paxil, and I am living a nightmare. Can't sleep. High anxiety, not sleeping. Angry much of the time. I will never take it again.

I was prescribed this for depression and anxiety, and it does work well. My prescription ran out and I couldn't get it refilled until I saw my doctor again. Now I know what was wrong with me in the interim. Running out the way I did, I quit taking it all at once and it several weeks before I could get any more. All I can say is it was hell. I wondered if I was really sick, crazy or both. I'll borrow the money for the doctor so I can go sooner next time. *L*

This was the first medication I tried to help treat my anxiety as well as depression. However I found that, while it helped to make my anxiety more manageable, it made my depression worse. There were also a lot of negative side effects that made taking the medication a struggle. I lost my appetite and felt sick almost constantly and felt lethargic and unwilling to do much of anything.

It seemed to help my depression but I developed a problem with my chin trembling when drinking from a cup or glass. My doctor took me off Paxel so that we can see if the chin trembling is a side effect of the medicine.

Taking this medication makes me extremely tired. However the effectiveness of the medication outweighs the side effect.

I have been stuck on this drug for 15 years. At first when I was 15, I would say it saved my life. My panic attacks were interfering with my life and it allowed me to graduate high school. HOWEVER, the doctor never told me about the dangerous side effects. I've tried to get off of it (even weaned with a doctor's help) to no avail. The side effects are TERRIBLE and I've never been able to deal with them. Sweating, brain zaps, blurred vision, hallucinations, heart palpitations, numbness in limbs, thoughts of suicide, severe nausea, you feel severely drunk or on the worst trip of your life... i thought i was dying the first time i didn't take a pill for two days. It is efficient in aiding in panic disorder, but if you take it, which i STRONGLY oppose, get ready to be a slave to it for the rest of your life. And say goodbye to sex. Or at least, your libido and ability to perform.Read More Read Less

I have had depression all my life and finally at about the age of 50 decided to ask my MD for help. For about 2 years I took prozac but it did not help. For the last 10 or 12 years I have taken 20 mg of Paxil daily with no perseivable with side effects. Works well.

My primary reason for Rx (taking low dose for >8 years: Several "hot buttons" causing anger response; some anxiety & mild depression. My positives: Seems to lessen my anger responses to some issues. My negatives: Has made me more lethargic about things I need to do, and seemingly less productive. Still feel mildly depressed.

When I had insurance , I was able to afford this medication. My heart surgeon put me on Paxil CR (not regular Paxil), for a deep depression right after my heart surgery . Since then, I lost my job, my insurance coverage and can longer afford my Paxil CR . I am feeling worse since I was forced to stop taking it . I don't understand why it is SO much more expensive than regular Paxil, but I do notice I am much more filled with anxiety .
