I have a history of diverticulosis. Twice now when food got trapped in the intestine pockets, I have been prescribed Lactulose. When I asked how this worked so quickly to eliminate my pain, the doctor explained this medication acts as a magnet to enter the pockets and then eliminates the rotting food particles trapped in there. It creates moisture and sends it on its way thru the intestines where...

MY DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED THIS FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 YEARS! I HAD TO INCREASE AND INCREASE THE DOSAGE FOR IT TO WORK, SO NOW I HAVE TO TAKE THE STRONGER LINZESS WITH IT. IT DOES GIVE ONE GAS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT CONTINUED USE OF A LAXATIVE WAS BAD FOR US? WHY DOES MY DR. KEEP ME ON IT FOR SO LONG? BECAUSE I'D NEVER GO WITHOUT IT (I HAVE A TWISTED COLON) AND NOW I THINK I HAVE A BLOCKAGE…….BELLY...

My cheeks turned red and puffy could this be from the lactulose? It really hurts. Please advise.

I have terrible cramping with this drug and also I have 4-6 stools per day. This leaves me not wanting to leave home. The cramping wears me out.

I've had IBS all of my life, and it's always been very painful. I am very happy with Lactulose, now i have no pain, cramping, or hemorrhoids. I have not experienced any negative side affects at all, and my only issue is i have several bowel movements a day, but my doctor assures me this is fine.

I wonder if this is habit forming to the colon. I have a colostomy. 1 tablespoon of this every other day is more than I can handle.

Caused explosive diarrhea that was exhausting for 84 year-old. Nutritionist suggested bran muffins and a teaspoon of fruit pectin plus discontinued use of robotic. Ammonia level is down. ...confusion is decreasing.

Been taking for 10 years now. Best taken before eating in AM with a cup of water. Taste not bad. can take in hot coffee if needed. I do have gas with it. but better then not going. I had colon resection and I can't blocked up. Some times you just need to adjust the dose if you get too loose.

I also use this drug for HE due to liver disease. This drug has certainly help with having bowel movements, thus removing toxins better than I was. O.K. I do have a sense of taste, here's my answer to this. It was killen me. I add 1 tablespoon of Tart Cherry Juice to my 2 TBLSP of Lactulose. The tart helps even out the syrup, try it, you won't be sorry!

Brilliant stuff. Senna and bisacodyl side effects were terrible for me so I was delighted to find that this works without causing me pain. There has been a side effect of being a bit more gassy but not uncomfortably so. Found 30mls twice a day worked, anything less didn't and I discovered from an IBS forum that is a common dosage. Very happy overall.

experiencing small brain dead moments since taking this drug. Loss of balance, no cognitive response when taking over 2 (3-4 Tbls.) per day. Many trips to ER due to unresponsiveness. As a caregiver Lactulose seems to have same effect as someone with Alzhemer's disease at the age of 61.

I am 73 yrs old. I have had bowel problems since I was a small child. Been taking lactulose since 2010. This medication has been a life saver for me. I have some flatulence and some bloating, but this is much better than the alternative. I only take 1.5 ounces every three days, which gives me bowel movements every day.

I have been using Lactulose for only three days and all the sudden I have started to itch. It seems unlikely that something so sugary and sweet used for chronic constipation would cause me to itch, but my extremities are all itching, and I am going crazy scratching. I have used a cream made to stop itching, but it hasn't worked. I have been itching now for several hours. I have not taken any more medication since last night. I can only hop the itching stops while I still have skin.

I needed more information on Lactulose and triglycerides levels because of a puppy I own that was diagnosed with portosystemic shunt. After researching it more I came to know that Lactulose is also prescribed for IBS only and since my husband suffers from constipation for over 25 years now and a daily use of Metamucil powder is what keeps him regular (Metamucil pills do not work for him as great as the powder does) I started reading more reviews about it. What I came to know is that Lactulose syrup does work really well for some and not so well for others (as do many other laxatives). But if this can help, depending on the syrup brand or manufacture, it will make a HUGE difference in the results. I have been giving lactulose syrup for my pup (which had gone through liver shunt surgery with 2 ½ months old..) for almost 3 to 4 mo now. And I can definitely tell that when I had to purchased a new bottle, it was different in color and in thickness and the results were not great as the previous one had been. This one had a more yellowish color and was less "honey-like" consistent while the other was very clear and thick as honey. So I believe that depending on the "brand"/manufacture of the syrup, one will get a different result because of this also. I was administering the puppy's dose two to three times daily depending on her bowel movements until now with 1 dose only. When I gave her the second bottle of lactulose, she would have no bowel moments at all even with the same amount of dosage as the previous one. I also noticed that her brain would not benefit as much as it did with the other and as soon as I went back to the same type of lactulose syrup, she responded positively and was more alert. (she likes it)She could have regular bowel moments and I believe no cramp or discomfort has been present until today. (will even pay more close attention to the "bloating" conditions other reviewers have experienced and mentioned.) I hope this can help with anyone's trialsRead More Read Less
