I have been on Omeprazole for 6 years. When symptoms of fatigue, serious leg pain, headaches, constant burping, gas and feeling like I had to throw up started happening, I went to my doctor of 27 years, explained what was happening and was met with silence. I have had to do research on my own; that's why I'm here. My latest blood work shows that for the first time in my life, I am Vit. D deficient...

I increased my dosage of Omeprazole from 20MG to 40MG a few years back. It's a very effective medication in terms of controlling GERD. However the issue I've been having with it is that it causes a noticeable degree of fatigue and it has lowered both my Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 levels. I am currently taking supplements to increase my levels of those vitamins

with in 2 days of taking this medication my body stated reacting terribly to it. i've been having severe back pains, and headaches. i have not been able to sleep at all. i have managed to get about 3 hours of sleep every night since i have been on it. after reading these reveiws and seeing how many people have had these same effects i am about to stop taking it and refer to another drug. afraid of getting off of it now because any time i've missed a day of taking it i get really bad acid reflux, worse then before i was ever on this drug. if i stop taking it will my symtoms become worse??? what other drug could i take that might not react with me the way this drug has??? After diagnosed with Hyatl Hernia and Acid Reflux was put on Omeprazole. It took away the pain I was having but after a few months I was not able to go to sleep at night and I would have itching. I stopped taking the medication and was not able to go to sleep at night without taking Melatonin for 3 months. Finally got back to normal and tried Omeprazole for 3 days and again was not able to go to sleep. I will never take this drug again.

Nothing else worked. I have got my active life back again. Extremely happy as thought I would have to give up work. Does make me lactose intolerant but that is a small price to pay.

I just wanted to add a very important note to my other note. I haven't lost my food immediately after eating a meal as I did before Omeprazole.

I have acid reflux and excess stomach acid, so I was prescribed omeprazole. It didn't do a darn thing. I still had terrible acid reflux. Tums worked much better.

I have takent this quite some time after surgery and have been satisfied with no side effects. I took Protonix before and Omeprazole is fine. For those with bad conditions, see your doctor and have it fixed. I did and it worked for me. Good luck...

Yes, it is a PPI, and yes, it does help. I am taking 2x20mg each morning as soon as I awaken. It is not, however, as effective as Protonix. Like others reviewing here, my insurance (Cigna) would only cover Protonix as 3rd tier Rx, meaning approximately $40 copay per month. Omeprazole is covered as generic ($5 copay). Too bad, I really liked the Protonix. It seemed to work so much better throughout the day, and it didn't seem to have the flatulence side effects either.

I have been on this for 3 months. So far so good. I was taking prevacid, but my insurance wouldnt cover it anymore and this was the alternative drug. Plus I needed something twice a day not just before bed (thats when I took the prevacid). I get occasional heartburn and burping, but I just take 2 rolaids and with in 15 minutes I am fine. My bowel movements are smelly, but that could be from having my gallbladder removed also.

Causes TERRIBLE side effect of skin itching. Especially at night. I Don't care if it IS'NT listed as a side effect! PLUS after I had a perm to my hair - the dryness to my hair turned to small blisters to my scalp--BEWARE of mixing RX and Hair Chemicals.

Insurance wouldn't pay for protonix so I was switched. Seems to work as well. I have been on it for 2 weeks with no side effects.

I love it love it love it!!!! I get the occasional heartburn, but i still like this drug. I hope that if Dr decides to stop treatment i wont have the problems mentioned in other posts. Living on Saltines for a year and dropping weight quickly makes me a lot more aware of what drugs i use. So Far So good. Been taking with hyosycamine and very happy overall.
