Have taken this for years, literally, since no insurance (come on Medicare) for the "magical purple pill"- it works very well and I start to suffer symptoms by second day of I don't get to the store for more- so it definitely relives symptoms. What amazes me is that it is the main ingredient in the expensive OTC (Prilosec, Zantac etc) and you can buy 200 tablets 150 mg at Walmart for about $7.00. ...

My doctor gave me this to try to help with the heartburn I had developed from apparent GERD, while it did help my heartburn at night while I slept, I noticed it caused me to have more heartburn overall and more frequently, if I missed a dose I would get severe heartburn. Until now I only had heartburn while laying down, now I have heartburn all the time. I wanted to have less heartburn, not take...

Switched from Omeprazole & Dexilant due to intense upper stomach pain. Ranitidine is an H2 Blocker (not a PPI).

I've been expermenting with this for a year. 150mg twice daily seem to work. Once a day doesn't last. Side effects include cronic mild nausia. Good for loosing weight. Persistant ringing in the ears. I just went to the store and bought Prilosec. I know it has terible side effects, but I'm trying it anyhow.

First of all I just found out that you shouldn't drink alcohol while taking this drug. There should be a warning label on the bottle stating this. I'm not a heavy drinker one or two drinks per week so I know that my symptoms weren't all drink related. I did experience the rapid heartbeat and since I have a heart condition I never associated the symtom with this medicine. I would also have stomach cramps in one area of my stomach after taking this medicine and now I know why. The instructions never said to take it BEFORE each meal. So of course it didn't work for me. I'm going to give it another try now that I know the proper way to take it, and then I'm going to have a talk with my doctor about why he didn't tell me how to and what not to do when he prescribed this medicine for me. Can you say Dr. Quacker?Read More Read Less

Ranitidine works, but for me there were too many negatives. I noticed I was more depressed, irritable and sleepy.

I'm 17 and have had unexplained heartburn for months. My doctor ended up putting me on ranitidine 300mg. Aside from the fatigue it caused, it worked wonders for my heartburn and sour stomach the first few days. However, it has been making me sick lately. I took it the night before and threw up twice. Last night I took it again and have been nauseated all day, and my heartburn is on and off. I have another doctor's appt in a few days, and he may take me off of it or recommend I take a smaller dosage. Overall, it worked in the beginning but I am concerned about the side effects I have been developing.Read More Read Less

The medication was used for a stomach problem and I had a bad reaction to it. I have taken 150mg for about six days before anything started. After that I had complete diarrhea ever since, however It has started to settle down this past week. It has made me pass at least three to four times per day with constantly have gas. I have only been on this pill since August 22,2011 and will stop it today.
