My father was given this drug after having open heart surgery. Spent 3 months in ICU on a roller coaster from hell. Amiodarone stays in the body system for 3-6 months I am told. It attacked his lungs, first the right, then the next month the left, and then it came and attacked the lungs again only their wasn't anything left to fight with. The drug had turned his lungs into stone. The only thing that kept him alive was a heart that the doctors fixed. A girlfriend of mine (a Register Nurse) had a relative take this drug and he only lasted 3 weeks. I think this drug should be taken off the market before anyone else dies a horrible death. As a caregiver my mother died as a direct result of this product. Her lungs filled up, in a 28 day period, never to recover. Be very aware of this stuff.

Received it postop open heart surgery for atrial fibrillation, which is a common occurrence in this situation. Warning: Be sure the IV site is closely monitored for infiltration (drug leaks out into adjacent tissue) because this drug is very corrosive to tissue. It causes the skin to get one or more large, melasma-type brown spots which take a very long time to go away, if at all. Now, nearly 8 months postop, I still have a large area on my right forearm (original IV site) which seems like it will never go away, and it's very obvious to the naked eye. Just be aware.Read More Read Less
