The first two injections were one week apart, I had little or no discomfort and it seemed to be helping relieve my knee pain. When I received my third and final injection, 24 hours later my knee swelled up to the size of a grapefruit and I could not stand or bend it. I immediately went to the doctor who gave me the injections. He drained over 16oz's of fluid from my knee. After it was drained, I was able to walk again without crutches. For 3 days, I stayed off my feet and applied ice to the knee. On the 4th day, the swelling finally went down and my knee returned to a normal size and the pain had gone. I called Sanofi the company that makes Synvisc and informed them of what I experienced. They said this does happen and they do not know why! I asked if I needed to have Synvisc in the future, would I experience this again, the answer was "most likely". Read More Read Less

I have had two of the three injections of Synvisc. My pain level has decreased at least 30% since my first injection. I have more mobility in my knee now than before I started the program. Next week I get my final injection, I am confident I will be pain free by then!

Am 78 years. Have severe osteoarthritis both knees. Single injection both knees every six month for over two years. Eight hours after inj. start with severe swelling which last for about eight hours then begins to slowly subside and over with in 48 hours. Think the pain comes from the capsule. Serves to remind me how bad my knee pain was before injections. I get better than outstanding relief of pain from the injections. Think I probably go for more than six between injections but afraid risk it. Do yard work, do my own house work,go for long walks, do my own grocery shopping. Read More Read Less

I have had 2 of the 3 shots. I will not be getting the third due to the pain. After the first shot I needed to use a cane. After the second shot I ended up in the ER because of the pain. I was not able to take anything to even touch the pain. The er Dr kept me out of work for 2 days which was good because I could not get around without help from my husband. We ended up buying a walker this was the only way I was able to get around. Ended up with narcotics for pain. I will not be receiving the third shot and will never use this product again. My mom has these shots her reaction to them are not the same as mine. Read More Read Less

Severe swelling which needed to de drained. Immediately after shots I had the worst headaches I have ever had, they lasted for about two weeks. I am worse off now than before the shots. I also felt "not to good overall" very tired, feverish, etc for about two weeks. Side effects for me were pretty bad, never again.

I first received Synvisc in my hips to treat osteo arthritis some 20 years ago. My Dr indicated that if it gave me relief, it would most likely last for 2-6months. My 1st series of 3 injections lasted 2 years. Since that time I have had injections as follows: my second series lasted 2 years, the 3rd series lasted 5 years, my 4 the series lasted 5 years and I am currently awaiting my 5th set of Syn-visc almost 7 years since my last treatment. My results with this product have been miraculous! Living pain free for so many years after having contemplated suicide because I could not live with the excruciating pain, is truly a blessing. Thank you Syn-visc! I do not understand why this miracle product is not used more often for treating arthritis pain in hips. It truly and literally saved my life.Read More Read Less

My first experience with hyerlonic acid was soooo. 5 yrs. ago. Synvisc was injected into both of my knees and gave me immediate pain relieve. Two yrs. later my orthopaedic specialist recommended another round of injections. This time I chose Duralaine. Again the results were immediate pain relief. Just this week I've had another round of injections as the Ostio arthritis has worsened. This time we went with Synvisc again. Both knees were treated, however, my right leg is swollen, red and burning from the top of my leg down to my foot. It's quite uncomfortable to say the least! Calling my specialist tomorrow! I feel I made the mistake of choosing Synvisc over the Duralaine. Will have to wait and see what the specialist says.Read More Read Less

I am one of the rare cases of suffered side effects. Within a week of the shot my knee swelled and there was a lot of pain. Ended up in ER where they drained the knee. Followed up with doctor who drained my knee again. All Synvisc gone at this point. On Prednisone to take the rest of the swelling away. Left with an unbelievable amount of pain (worse than before I had the injection).

Synvisc was injected into my knees on October 8th at VA, only I didn't feel the doctor went between the joints The needle was aimed toward the back of the knee's here my joints or still killing me that night my legs felt like they were on fire. My ankles swollen they were water logged. My knees over injection are still swollen. Call left message for doctor last week have not heard from her yet TODAY is October 28 and I'm still in a great amount of pain. I had this injection maybe two years ago/ As soon as I got the injection two years ago I steeped off the table and I was pain free. Can't explain this one I just don't think the doctor knew what she was doing, Still in pain.Read More Read Less

I started with Synvisc when it first came out. For the first 6 years it was awesome after my last injection I had severe swelling, it went down after about 3 weeks, now 5 years later I'm having horrible pain in my legs (not knees)I am in so much pain I can barely touch my legs. I wouldn't use it more than once or twice. I feel I have a toxic build up!

My experience with Synvisc so far has been negative. My knee is still swollen a week after the injection and my pain has increased. It was my understanding that the injection can take as long as 12 weeks to take effect but is generally effective within 8 weeks. I was also told that swelling and pain after the injection does not last more than 48 hrs. This is not the case with me. My knee is clicking and popping more after the injection than before. My pain has also increased.

Knee pain at rest and during and after playing tennis. Lots of ibuprophen taken to deal with pain. Had miniscal tear repair without any pain relief. Total reversal of issues after 4-5 wks on first series of Synvisc-One and even more relief after second series, eight months later. Very glad for this therapy and recommend to all friends and family!
