Took this for MRSA infection on my skin, prescribed my my derm. Discovered that some of my acne cleared up (on my back) and so did the folliculitis on my legs (I have a lot of skin problems). Turns out all were being caused by various forms of staph, and the Bactrim is treating them all. My derm has allowed me to stay on it long-term for the acne/folliculitis.

I was on a ten day supply of Bactrim taking 2 tablets twice a day for an infected finger which was cut with a kitchen knife. Bactrim helped clear the infection within a couple days but on day 7 i started to develop a fever of 100.5 not too bad- then got chills and felt very fatigued on the 8th day i developed a rash which ended up being on my whole body head to toe. i went to ER not knowing what w...

I was prescribed this in a 3 day dose to get rid of my UTI quick, the only problem is I was then sick from the medicine for the next week. I was nauseated, running a fever, tired, body chills and aches. This medicine messes you up. Yes, it did get rid of my UTI but I definitely DON'T think it was worth it.

I have had acne for 25 years (36 now) and this is the only medication that has ever helped me. I stopped taking it for a week and acne came back- so it really works in getting rid of bacteria.

On the fourth, of ten, days of treatment. Med increasingly effective after 3rd day. Not as easy as some antibiotics because it must be taken twice a day. Did cause nausea on day one, HOWEVER, took with food as suggested on the bottle and no longer experienced a problem. I was surprised to know that this med is used to treat acne because I have mild acne and it didn't seem to do anything for that. Overall, I would recommend this drug because it seems it has been more effective than others such as the Z-pack. Note: Drink lots of water because "unlikely" kidney stones may form while taking this drug.Read More Read Less

Thank you! Something that WORKED! This was my third antibiotic for a horrible ear infection. First was amoxicillin that did nothing. Then Levaquin which had VERY serious side effects and I had to stop taking it. (DON'T EVER TAKE LEVAQUIN! See other patient reviews, too.) Bactrim finally did it for me! And it comes in generic form so it's cheap! Note to Caligurl: sounds like your problem isn't the drug, but the doctor. JMHO

My 22-month-old daughter has been prescribed this medication twice for ear infections, and it is a miracle! We tried zithromax, amoxicillin (which I am allergic to) and omnicef, but we have found that ater just 1 day she is back to her normal self with bactrim. And as a bonus, Publix grocery stores give this out for FREE as long as you have a prescription!

Took Bactrim for about 4 days due to a UTI. Made me HORRIBLY sick. Experienced neausea on 2nd and 3rd day, then on the 4th day, I threw up ALL DAY LONG. Worst case of vomiting I've ever had in my life. I stopped taking it immediately.

I know my Dr. needs to go back to med. school.. I had the same problem with this medication.. my doctor said this med was for Headaches??? Bactrim?? and she said that I have headaches due to sinus pressure? What, that makes no sence.. I have no allergies.!I get really bad stress headaches, and that is what she gave me..How nice of a Doctor to understand what it feels like to have a n un-ending horrible head ache, where your head feels like theres a guy inside your head pounding with a jackhammer..OK.. any suggestions? And , to add to my bad experience w/ the Dr, she did'nt give me anything. and insulted my intelligence..that medication made me feel worse.. I had no infection. Read More Read Less

I got this drug to treat a urinary tract infection. I was in a lot of pain, and was very satisfied at how fast it worked. After 7 days of being on the treatment, I broke out into an itchy rash (I'm allergic to ceclor which is very similar, so it wasn't a suprise). Unfortunately I had to stop taking it, and relapsed. I really wish I wasn't allergic to it, bacause it worked great. Another plus is that it doesn't taste terrible like the Ceftin that I'm taking now. I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't allergic to it.Read More Read Less

My 2 year old daughter was prescribed this medicine due to an ear infection. She is allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, keflex, and from my understanding this has some of the contents within the drug. After 4 days of use, her platelets dropped drastically. She was hospitalized for 3 days. Throwing up blood, constant bruising, fatigue, etc. I do not recommend this drug. A side effect of this drug is to lower plateletts but we were never notified of that fact. On top of her cold and ear infection, her immunity was already at its low, and the help of this bactrim lowered it to a 2,000 count. A NORMAL platelette count is 150,000. It is my recommendation you RESEARCH this drug and discuss ALL of the facts before going forward in using. I, myself will NEVER allow my daughter to use this drug again. Scared is not even the word for what we experienced. If this helps just one person....it was worth it. Thank you.Read More Read Less

After 5 days of a 10 day treatment for an ear infection which did clear up, I had an allergic reaction to this drug and broke out with welts and developed an itchy rash all over my entire body. I developed a fever, sore throat and body aches. After stopping the drug and seeing the dr. 3 times in the same week along with having an injection and other prescriptions called in, the reaction from this drug finally went away. I was off work for 1 week and was miserable the entire time. The culprit was the sulfa in the drug. Another thing I noticed was that things get worse before they get better.Read More Read Less

I was able to use before (fourteen day prescription) for MRSA that had caused painfully infected follicles. However, same prescription caused an allergic reaction this time. My skin turned red and hot in places and I itch all over. They're switching my prescription, but for effectiveness, I wish I could continue to use. No desire for anaphylaxis, though, and not really liking the itching, so I'll discontinue use. I hope they can reformulate to work as effectively without the risk of allergic reaction being so high.Read More Read Less

My six year old has just finised her ten day dose of Bactrim for a Staph. skin infection. She is now breaking out in a rash without any other signs and symptoms. This medication was excellent in fighting the skin infection, however I am now somewhat concerned she is having an allergic reaction.

I was prescribed this medecine when I was diagnosed with a severe UTI and a severe gastro infection (both at the same time!!)... this medicine made me SO sick at my stomach; so much that I was constantly vomiting from it. I could hardly swallow the pills because they were so large, and they left a really bad taste in my mouth. My doctor finally had to switch me to another antibiotic after 4 days, and after then, I was not been vomiting, and I was able to keep food and liquids down.
