Divalproex is the third bipolar med I've tried, and it's the first that doesn't feel like a complete waste of money. I do get some slight tremors after my morning dose, but that's the only side effect I've experienced (my liver function's actually improved since I switched from lithium). There's a definite difference in my mood, too -- I'm far less irritable and edgy on divalproex than I felt on l...

I use to have over 100 Petimal seizures a day, and 1 grandmal a month on average. When i was about 20 i started taking Depakote. My Petimals dissapeared, and i have had only 2 grandmals in the past 35 years!!!!!!!!!!

Was prescribed this for what my neurologist deemed "migraine syndrom". I was having dizzy spells and unbalanced walking, felt like passing out at times. He prescribed this for those symptoms. After taking this, I had major headaches, blurred vision, panic attacks not to mention it did nothing for my original symptoms. I think this doctor is a quack!

This was the first drug I took. It did nothing for me. Lithium was next added, plus Cipralex, and Latuda. Now I'd like to get rid of the Divalproex, since it had no effect from the beginning. Makes sense, right?

It has lessened the seizures, but user is lethargic, confused and unsteady on her feet. *I am caregiver*. Dr. lowered the dosage to 1/3 of capsule sprinkled in food. No change in side effects. She sleeps for days and doesn't even wake for bowel movements. Her cognitive function seems much lower/ almost that of a toddler- she can't even feed herself with this in her system. She is 59. This 'medicine' is poison!

started taking divalproex about 7 years ago due to glioma brain tumor caused petit mals which were occurring multiple times daily. currently taking 1250 mg daily and petit mals have reduced in severity/regularity. only down side is left hand tremors (Which could be caused by tumor growing into right sided motor cortex). there was a lot of blood testing/doseage adjustment to get it right at the start. also have the problem of near constant fatigue, but rather that than petit mals.

my experience has been good overall, once my dr determined that i required 3 pills a day to remain within the treatable range for my blood levels, it went well, and is going well to this day.

I feel like I am on auto pilot. Not happy not sad or mad. I take 500mg at night. I have been more active lately but the lack of emotions are driving me nuts! I am not sure I want to keep taking these meds. I hate my crazy but not being able to react is causing issues.

On this medication 6 years, 250 mg twice daily. Put on med after being found in an unexplained fall at my home that caused a coma. I have been extremely tired, which effects my ability to focus. Have gained 40 plus pounds, and have a very achy body. I want, and have asked that my Dr. allow me to go off this Med. I own my home as well as business. So yes I do function.

I was skeptical,(have had many failures, this was the last one I hadn't tried yet) but it has worked for me. I take 3-250mg pills 8 hrs apart. January is usually my worst month for migraines because of the weather swings and I only needed 1 zomig at the beginning of the month. I started divalproex in Nov. Tried topamax but had terrible allergic reactions. This one is way cheaper and works well for me. Just keep trying until you find what works for you.

My neurologist said that this med causes hair loss, which I have experienced. That has subsided, and now I have hives on my scalp. I wonder if they are connected. Seeing her today. Other than this, the med is great, I began taking 2,000 mg a day in 2009, now take 1000mg a day.
