I was prescribed Cryselle after taking the depo shot and suffering heavy bleeding for four continuous months. Cryselle has been fantastic for me. My period lasts no more than four days. As for the side effects, all birth control has side effects but Cryselle was the best for me.

I was put on Cryselle for abnormally long, heavy periods. I took this pill for 8 days and could not stand the mood swings. One minute laughing and the next crying was too much for me. This may work well for some, but definitely was not the right pill for me.

I have very regular periods with hardly ever any mood swings, cramps, etc. I only took this for birth control reasons beginning at 20 and continuing on at 25. As far as I have noticed, I have not had any additional weight gain, I don't have mood swings, I don't have bloat, cramps, etc. I do feel like I have acne before/during my period (one single white head that I rarely had before my period). I am still so regular I can set my clock to it. (Wednesday morning ~9AM). I had poor vision before but it seemed to decrease the initial time I went on the pill. But my vision has since decreased again so it's all relative. I was surprised by how negatively this pill seemed to effect people and wanted to give my personal experience. My period, mental and physical health started excellent. I've since taken the pill and am, as far as I can tell, basically the same--with less blood flow. Read More Read Less

I started this because I didn't have an strange period since I had a tubal ligation, no period for months on end. Started this and almost immediately noticed mood swings, I am talking HORRIBLE mood swings!! Happy, BALLING CRYING. No idea why. It works, well still no period...but simple to take and easy to remember. Will be going to obgyn for ultrasounds now as to why I am still not having a period. I am ready to try something else, mood swings are ruining my relationship and daily experience.

I have not been on full strength birth control until the last 4 months- since I got married later in life and we were just ready to have kids. I am just now realizing though that my extreme moodiness seems to coincide with when I started taking the med. I felt like I had become this very nasty irritable person! I am usually very laid back and loving. It just made me feel like a yucky person that I don't want to be. we just stopped it a month or so ago to get pregnant again but I don't think that I will be going back on it.Read More Read Less

Okay so I had a hard time reviewing this because I began taking this medication to not only to aid EXTREMELY painful periods but also as a method of birth control. As far as birth control goes, as far as I know I'm not pregnant. However, I've been on this pill approx. 6 months and this last period was the only one I had on the pill that wasn't EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. I find myself super moody two weeks before my period and my periods have been very heavy as well. (Actual chunks have come out for some) I find myself unable to even use tampons because of how heavy it can be. A weird side effect I came to this website to see if anyone else has experienced is weight gain. When I first got on this pill I went up an entire bra cup size. I went from a barely C cup to a full to small D cup. My hips have grown to the point that I'm a larger pant size and I've gained a lot of what I'm guessing is water weight around my stomach. I'm guessing a culprit would be that I have PMS symptoms when I know I should not because of the increased estrogen. I'm perfectly happy with larger breasts (I'm sad that they will probably shrink when I switch birth controls) but outgrowing all of my clothes is obnoxious. As stated, this is the only period I've had that my period didn't really hurt and it was also really light (this caused a pregnancy scare.) My doctor had prescribed me to only have a period every three months but I only did this three times just to make sure that I am not pregnant every month. There are perks, I'm going to give this pill one more month but at the end of it I'm going to look for something that may work better. I've been on the pill two separate times and they helped my periods exponentially with no other side effects. Read More Read Less

Since I was 18 and started getting cramps that were so bad I would often throw up, I tried Loestrin 24 and most recently, Low Ogestrel 28. I switched to Cryselle about 4 months ago when CVS didn't have my usual brand in stock. From my very first period on it, it has worked the best by far. My flow is no longer heavy enough to require super tampons - regular is often sufficient now. I now only need to take Tylenol to reduce the pain of cramps for one day instead of 3-4. I haven't been on it long enough to comment much on regularity, but my periods seem to be starting and ending right on track each month.Read More Read Less

Since starting this BC 4 weeks ago, I have experienced horrible breakthrough bleeding DAILY for 3 weeks now, cramps that leave me doubled over in pain, incredible bouts of intense anger and sadness, increase in acne and significant swelling in my legs and feet. My doctor wants me to give it three months and I'm just not sure it's worth it!!

I have been on this medicine for about 3 months. The first two months were fine. This last month has caused me severe mood swings, anxiety, and at times I feel depressed. I've always been a very happy person but this medicine has made me feel terrible. Do not take this medication while under stress or if you get anxious easily. I am quitting it now.

I have been using oral contraceptive since the age of 16, and I'm now 26. I've been on quite a few different pills just because of my body becoming used to one pill and needing to switch to another. I've been on cryselle for about 5 months and I've noticed a progessive increase in HORRIBLE, unbearable mood swings along with an increase in cramping with my periods and an increase in break outs. The worst side effect is the effect on my mood. Up to 2 weeks before my period my mood is up and down, and not just "normal" up and down, i'm talking crazy up and down. I've never experienced such a roller coaster of emotions before. One minute I'll be happy and with the snap of a finger I'll be angry or sad and crying. I'm making an appointment with by ob/gyn to switch to something else.Read More Read Less

In my 40's, am taking this to continue hormonal therapy at the advice of my practitioner. I have had a tubal. I have experienced complete loss of a healthy sex drive and gained 10+ pounds in the first two months. I am healthy and active, on no other medications. I have used the Nuva ring more successfully in the past but it is not on my current drug formulary.

This medicine has caused me to have breakthrough bleeding between periods, severe menstrual cramps, and horrible headaches. I was placed on Cryselle to diminish my cramps and it has, in fact, made them worse.

I've been on this medication for about 2 years. I used to have ovarian cysts and the pain would be so severe that I would have to go the the ER. Since I started I haven't had any pain or problems. I did not gain weight, break out, or lose my sex drive.

I've been on cryselle for about 4 years now and initially, it did a number on my body - I was breaking out, gaining weight, moody, the whole nine yards - but after the first month, my body adjusted and returned to normal. It's been effective in preventing pregnancy, but it SEVERELY decreased my sex drive. My libido is close to non-existent. However, it's done its job when put in use with minimal side effects aside from the sex drive, or lack thereof.

Let me explain my rating. Effective? Yes I haven't become pregnant ever on it. Ease? I don't find it too difficult to take pills. Satisfaction? Bad. I actually started on the generic version of this (way better) and was ok. Gained a little weight, 2-3 lbs. switched to this a month and a half ago and it's horrible. I took it a couple of years ago for a few months, same problems so I know it's the medication. Gained 12 lbs, mostly because my appetite is like constant PMS hunger. I'm usually not like that, I'm like a zombie, very detached not my usual perky self, TIRED all the time, can't sleep and some skin issues. And the longer I'm on the worse it is. It's like PMS 3 weeks a month. Periods are light and pain free but then again I never had issues I take this strictly to prevent pregnancy. My OB/GYN switched me and hoping for better results. The generic (low ogesteral I think) is way better. Only reason I'm not switching back to that is because I still was cranky, which I am normally obnoxiously happy so I don't want that side effect of grouchiness. Though it's not well known, in my opinion, I think this definitely messes with your body. BC are hormones, which everyone reacts to differently and all medications are a chemical reaction, no different than if your body prefers Tylenol and mine Ibeuprophen. Hopefully something else works better for me!Read More Read Less

Took Cryselle for a year with no particular issues - only switching because I don't want to take pills every day. Bit of fluid retention sometimes, but not a big deal. No other side effects for me and my periods were greatly reduced and very regular. As with any birth control however you can only try it and see how it works for you!

I started taking this birth control when I was 17. I am now 20 years old with one of the worst cases of Endometriosis my doctor has ever seen for someone of my age. I had no problems before I started this birth control. Although doctors say they cannot prove the cause of this disease, I personally believe this medication caused it! At first, I had no problems really except extremely heavy periods. My periods would last for two months, then i would be fine for about a week, with another two months of torture following. Then the pain started. Sometimes I could not walk, drive, or move. I had a cyst on one of my ovaries that was 8 cm! That was my first surgery. I was still taking this medication after my surgery and then the periods started to go back to the way they were. Two months on, one week off. I thought another surgery would help, but it did not. Tried a shot for six months that completely stopped my pain and periods. Unfortunately that shot is 2,000 dollars a month. I am already 12,000 dollars in debt because of this disease and I am only 20! I wish I had never started taking this birth control!Read More Read Less

I have been on 7 or 8 different BC pills (and the patch -- terrible idea) over the past 12 years or so. I actually have low hormones, so taking strong pills makes me feel terrible. I've tried every low-dose pill on the market, I think. I take these for 3 months at a time, skipping the sugar pills twice. Overall, they've been fine. Period starts on a Thursday, done by Monday or Tuesday. Only heavy for usually one full day, with cramps for a couple. I haven't had any acne increase (but to be fair, I have never had acne, so I might not be the norm) or weight gain (but to be fair, I was overweight to begin with -- slow metabolism is my trade off for good skin), and my mood swings have greatly decreased with the 3 month regimen. Every woman is obviously different, but Cryselle has worked well for me.Read More Read Less
