My spine was so damaged that three vertebrae broke - the second three weeks after the first, and the third 4 weeks after the third. No falls, no bumps - the first broke while coughing. I took Forteo for 18 months, every single day I took calcium supplements, and some foods with calcium. I had no side effects. My bone scan after 18 months showed a NORMAL spine. I am thrilled with this medicine; i myst wish it were not so expensive.

Injection easy but stomach cramps within 20 minutes afterwards

In May, I sneezed and fell to the floor. Felt like I'd been shot in the back. Turns out, it was a compression fracture of T-11, T-12. My BMI showed a -4.3. Five months and 3 or 4 more fractures later, I received Forteo. I had been in debilitating acute pain for 5 months. Within 3 weeks, I could feel Forteo helping me heal. I had a minor side effect of sore throat for 4 months. I am at seventh month of Forteo and notice my knees ache and are weak. Other minor bone pain, but my back is no doubt better. I am hoping to be able to continue Forteo for the whole 24 months. My worry is over what comes next. Wish I could stay on it. Best healing thoughts for all of you suffering from severe osteoporosis. This medicine has not worked for me at all! 3 months after taking the shots I lost a front tooth from this medicine! I did not realize that is one of the side effects! RUN!

I have been using Forteo for about 4 months now. I am now unable to walk without help due to my legs and feet in so much pain. I can't put any weight on them or they begin to shake. The pain is unbearable. I also have more breathing problems and a bad cough. I will not go back to using this medication ever again. I've been in so much pain, I do not wish this pain on anyone or anything. I would love to know if there is anyone that has had these same reactions and how long do they last. Have had so many fractures in the past several yrs and no other osteoporosis medication helped or caused bad side effects. Forteo has given me the worst side effects but I broke my back after a small fall and my endocrinologist suggested one last drug try of Fortro. After 2 weeks 80% of my very thick hair fell out. Recurring severe pain level of 8 to 9 started at 3 weeks. On third vial now. Have to nap each day. Joint Pain horrid. Am afraid to stop taking it. I am having a pain pump implanted in a month due to other back pain that is not surgically fixable. I am praying it will help with the forteo pain.Read More Read Less

I just finished 2 years of Forteo 5/2018. As of now 9/2018 I was hospitalized with diverticulitis complicated by an abscess in my colon due to diverticulitis. I didn't know diverticulitis was a possible side effect of Forteo until recently. Diverticulitis is very painful and now will define the rest of my life in terms of diet to avoid flare ups. Wondering if anyone else developed diverticulitis after being on Forteo.

I HAVE USED FORTEO FOR TWO YEARS WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE RESULTS AND AM NOT SURE IT WAS WORTH THE HASSLE OF INJECTIONS EVERY DAY. I WILL BEGIN RECLAST IN TWO WEEKS BECAUSE I NEED TO BE ON SOMETHING.

I have been on Forteo for a year now. I will not get a BD scan until I have completed my 2 year program, however, blood work taken at 7 months ( bone marker) reviled great improvement. My Dr at Vanderbilt required incremental blood work after starting injections making sure my calcium level stayed within normal limits. from 1 week to 6 months. I have not have any side effects and have had nothing but success so far. I will be expecting good results when I have the Dexa Scan in 2019. My only concern is that after treatment is over I will need to take a bisphosphonate to slow down the osteoclast cells that naturally remove my new osteoblast bone cells Forteo induced. oh well, I will address that when the time comes. After being on this drug for a year I had a 1% gain in bone density. My doctor was happy I didn't lose ground. Can't say my aches and pains improved much. I have 1 more year on this expensive drug. The only thing keeping me on this is because I am high risk for fractures. Gained a lot of weight since going on Forteo. While they do not list it as a side effect I question that.

After I completed the injections, my bones did increase quite a bit. We were very excited about that. However, after a few years, they reverted right back to where they were and still declined. I'm upset I took something that basically did nothing but bide me a year or two.

Just three months into my Forteo treatment the pain in my sacral area left me. I was surprised when I was able to wash my big dog without pain. I have zero side effects and bone marker tests show that my body is building new bone (PINP and ALP). I am hopeful that we will be able to have another round of treatment beyond the 2 years. I get super tired about a half hour after each shot.

I just started taking Forteo 25 days ago. I know its is new but Im experiencing pain in my left temple and strange pains in my joints and back pain. Im experiencing memory issues that seem to be getting worse. Im afraid to continue and Im afraid to stop.

I took this injection for two years without side effects. My T scores only improved 17%. I still have osteoporosis in my hip, just not as severe. Not sure it was worth the expense or daily hassle.

I took Forteo for two years. During and since that time I have developed an increased heart rate, chronic kidney disease, low white blood cell count, and thinning hair. Doctors can find no reason for any of the above, except for their development during and after Forteo.

I had taken Fosamax for two years and It had not helped at all. So my doctor sent me to an endocronlogist (spelling probably wrong) and he got me started on Foreo. I had regular blood tests and I never had any side effects. After two years, my DEXA score had improved. I haven't used anything in three years (no insurance) and now my doctor wants me to use Prolia, which scares me.

I tried this three times due to the fact I really need it. Each time I quit as it gives me a migraine, insomnia and joint pain. I have discontinued it.

I'm 6 weeks into treatment. In first two weeks some mild leg cramps that went away. Super easy to use! Too soon to see effectiveness. Had 14 fractures starting at age 36. This past summer finally dx with osteoprosis after 7 fx's in 12 months. Caused by steroid use in my early 30's. I thank God for the Veterans Administration to pay for this treatment. On month 8, no repeat DEXA yet. Early experienced some nausea, leg cramps wake me up at night. Big drop in vitamin D levels, developed anemia. Hair loss and very dry skin. Now taking Iron, D3, Selinium, Zinc, Biotin, Magnesium, Rogaine. Helpful folks at Lilly, own docs not so much. Hope Forteo works.
