I was diagnosed with a brain tumor(megelablastoma) in Oct.2006, I was 35 yrs.old, immediately started decadron 4mg 2times daily, had a 15 hr surgery for tumor removal 6 days after being diagnosed,I was released from the hospital 5 days following surgery no chemo was needed but I had to have an extended period of radiation, and several weeks of physical therapy resulting in very acceptable results,...

This was prescribed for 5yr old daughter. She had strep and a very painful mouth. Fortunately she spit out 1/2 the dose. Several hours level she became a hostile and very angry human being. It was awful, I thought I had lost my child to a mental disease - it was so sad and disheartening. This lasted for 12-16 hours. We will never allow this drug to be given to our kids again!

I Had a pituitary tumor removed which left my pituitary gland unable to produce certain hormones so my endocrinologist put me on the the decadron less than a year ago and I hate it. Weight gain is the biggest part- I gained about 35lb in a few months. Other side effects include emotional instability. And joint pain (knees and ankles) if not taken at the same time each day. It's gotten to the point where I've crawled out of bed and not been able to walk for a few hours. And if you drink alcohol the pain is MUCH worse the next day. I know this drug is necessary for for me but I hate thinking that I have to take it for the rest of my life.Read More Read Less

My father has been on this medication for 4 months because of a brain tumor (glioblastoma multi forme). He was started on this after surgery and has tried to be weened off of it 3 times now and each time was unsuccessful. It caused lethargy, confusion, vomitting, head ache, and tremors. This was because the swelling reoccured during the titration process. It has also caused wakefulness, and caused him to be very very very shaky. There are times where his legs just turn into noodles and falls. Another complication with this "falling" is that he loses control of his bladder and urinates involuntarly. This has become a frequent problem and his doctor has put him on Ditropan to help control his bladder. Hopefully this helps. Read More Read Less

medication was use for inflamation and swelling after a tooth extraction and root canal treatment prescribed by my dentist. I was given two pills (4 mg a 2 day dosage) I was extremely ill after the first dosage and did not realize that this was the cause because I was taking an antibotic at the same time. Side effects: sweating, joint pain, nausea, gagging. was not able to stand. body aches, itching, and eye problems

I had to take decadron to decrease edema in my head, from recurrance of brain tumor. I took it for 4months I came off of the drug slowly. My hands shook so bad and I could'nt hardley walk up stairs and I'am still having difficulty with that.Extreme mood swings, crying,no sleep even taking anxiety pills did'nt help.Oh well hope that my legs and feet and muscle get back to normal again. It did however relieve my swelling in the brain.

I was prescribed Decadron to reduce the swelling of a brain stem tumor caused by Neurofibromatosis 1(NF-1). Original dose was 4 mlg 3 times a day. Attempts to reduce the dosage prior radiation treatment resulted in the return of life threatening symptoms. Dosage now is 3 1-mlg tabs twice a day. Initially, side affects like intense hunger, some irritability and inabilty to sleep were bothersome, but easily dealt with. This drug is a complete life saver for my situation and would be in the hospital without it or a similar acting medication. I have yet to start radiation treatment at the time of this writing, and am hopeful that reduction of the (inoperable) tumor will be sufficient to no longer need the drugs. Read More Read Less

This medicine has hepled me but it has not been easy. I take it because it avoids surgery for the swelling. I had depression which taking an antidepressant and changing my antihypertensive fixed. I am down to 1 a day as opposed to 4 times a day in 2 months. Take the medicine. I have very weak legs, feel about 80-90% myself. I wake up around 3:30 everyday but most of the time go back to sleep now. At first I stayed up. You get used to it and it is worth it!!

Taking for herniate disc to try an avoid surgery. Has helped reduce leg pain by 75% so I will take these short term side affects. Taking 4mg orally only 5 days. Haven't slept more than 4 hours a day since started...very odd dreams, organinzing, complex thought processes, great anxiety, mind races, increased other mental health compulsion I fight immensely! This is last day! I read the side affects end within 1-2 weeks at most. Let's leg pain is gone for much longer so the body reabsorbs the herniation to avoid surgery. Good luck.Read More Read Less

I had brain surgery and after sugery I had to take this medicene for swelling in the brain. It has caused many problems for me, here are some of them. Extreme nervousness, emotional problems, crying, rage, all kinds of very extreme over the top problems. But I have to take it because I am recieving Radiation therapy along with Chemotherapy with another drug Temodar. I hope this will help some one with their condition, I think the drug works good, but has very bad side effects that I did not understand until being taken off of them slowly.Read More Read Less

This is only day one, and I am wide awake at 4 AM. Concerns me. Will keep reading comments, and would like to hear of anything to counteract this response without sleeping pills that could aggravate possible depression side effect.

I take this drug the day before, the day of, and the day after chemo for lung cancer every 3 weeks. At first I had energy and sense of well being, although it cause my ankles to swell and hot red skin on my face and neck. It helped because I only have flu like symptons on the fifth day after chemo. This month, the side effects have changed. I become very sad, nervous and cannot control crying fits. I cancelled my chemo treatment. This drug, for some reason, has reversed it's side effects. Ths doctor has told me to take half the dosage.Read More Read Less
