I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cererbi in Nov 2009. I went to the eye DR for a flashing in my left eye and went from there. My eye test at that time was great 20/20 so no vision issues at that time. I went to see the neuro opthamologist and he did few test including a field vision test and my vision was fine but the fluid was bad in the left eye(flashing eye) and moderate in the right. In D...

I have been on this medication for over six months due to my diagnosis of Pseudotumor Cerebri. My ophthalmologist asked if I was having symptoms of PTC such as blurred vision, headaches, blackouts, etc. and I wasn't. My MRIs came back negative. I was started on meds to treat PTC. I have side effects that include tingling in my hands and feet, dry mouth, fatigue (usually at 12pm with no lunch eaten), and slight forgetfulness. I started this medication on 250 mgs 2x/day along with Topamax 75mgs and have lost 18lbs since being on both medications. Both medications have the same side effects. My neurologist recently decided that I can be weaned off of Topamax due to improvement in my eye condition. I am now on Diamox 500 mgs 2x/day. My optic nerve is less swollen and the pressure is going down. I have not had a spinal tap although initially my ophthalmologist was adamant about getting one. My neuro decided against it. He wanted to see if the meds would work 1st and luckily they did. I do have loss of appetite as well. I have changed my diet and I am beginning to exercise. My side effects aren't that bad and I am pleased with the weight loss. I needed something to help kick start my lifestyle change and I am grateful to still have my vision.Read More Read Less

I have IH. I talk this medication to releive the pressure on my brain and eyes and reduce the build up of cerebrial fluid and the need for spinal taps. It works wonders for me, My normal pressure should be 20 - 25 and it was over 55. It has removed the need for a shunt. The side effects are: it changes the taste of things, carbonated beverages burn the inside of my mouth, my hands and feet tingle like I am walking on needles.

With this drug, I no longer experience headache, severe fatigue, and other symptoms associated with altitude sickness. I started enjoying my climbs, instead of "digging deep". I never had any side effects either.

I am overall very happy with this drug.I can cope with the side effects such as pins and needles in the feet and hands.I only take two 250mg tablets a day at the moment until I have an eye operation.

I was prescribed diamox for high IOP .I have found it to be very effective in lowering IOP.I can cope with side effects such as passing urine frequently and pins and needles in my hands.I prefer oral tablets to an injection into the eye.

This drug has worked for me to treat my condition, however the side effects are almost unbearable. The "pins and needles" feeling I was getting in my limbs was so severe that it kept me from walking at times. Mind you, I was only taking 250mg twice a day which is considered a low dose for the drug. I am envious of those who can tolerate it because Diamox is decently effective over time, but so so painful. Honestly, I've found the best way to treat my condition is to lose weight.

Started taking 1/4 of a 125 mg Diamoxoral tablet last January 2013, but titrated it very slowly over a couple months to 1/2 of a 125 mg tab twice daily to let my body adjust.Since taking it, I have less weaknesses and/or paralyses episodes. I do feel it is important that I take my high dosage of potassium with it. I have gotten used to the minor side effects of prickling skin, tingling and inner buzzing feeling which are occasional.

I was diagnosed with IIH on Oct 31, 2012; I have been on Diamox ever since, 500mg 2x day. The side effects can come from nowhere and stop at anytime. The worst is the dry mouth; I always need water or gum around. I have lost as of today 5/21/13 60 lbs and I'm still struggling with IIH. I really wish they understood this condition more. The drug seems to put a band aid on the issue and has been preventing me from going blind.

Had dizziness whenever I moved. Felt lightheaded and nauseous. Started with a low dose (250 2x day) and worked up to six pills a day. Dizziness disappeared. Stayed on the med for 10 years, weaned off it and have stayed symptom free!!!

I have seizures that occur when I have my period. My doctors have tried to adjust my periods with birth control meds and other experiments. I have tried several medicines, but diamox along with lamictal has helped so much! Sometimes I go 6 months without a seizure. I forget about the side effects until I have that feeling of my foot 'falling asleep' or a tingle in my hands, but it's so infrequent now that it's not a big deal.

my ENT prescribed this for persistant and finally debilitating feelings of motion sickness. I was lightheaded and 'car-sick' if I simply nodded my head. Being in a car was always difficult, but it was better if I was the driver; finally I was motion sick even as the driver. I had a complete medical workup. Then started this med, 125 mg. twice a day. Within one week I started to improve, and now 3 months later I can be a passenger in a car and not become car-sick. It's been 30 years since I could do that. I can nod my head now too! My morning urines are darker than usual and the ENT periodically checks my blood potassium and my kidney function. In some important ways this medicine has given me my life back, and I feel better than I dared imagine I could be. Read More Read Less

I had to get on Diamox last month when i was diagnosed with IIH , but I now have more issues than I was having before the drug. My IIH caused me to have vision loss with some backaches along my spine and neck. I also had a spinal tap in which the pressure was 56 in which normal is 12-17. But i always felt like a healthy teenager, just one that couldn't see the board. But now with my Diamox I'm constantly feeling weak with tingling on my face and feet, I get confused often, I sunburn easily, and soda is gross. Diamox makes me actually feel unhealthy, but its better than becoming blind.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation and Pseudotumor back in Jan. 2008. I had neck decompression surgery done and I was put on Diamox in 2008. This medicine has helped me and I can tell if I do not take it, that I start feeling pressure where my CSF is built up at. I take the capsules 500mg twice every other day. I deal with cranial pressure daily and I have chronic migraines. I recently had botox injections for my migraines and that seemed to help some. I also had a shunt put in 2010.

Well I just starting taking Diamox and although its hard to remember to take it I guess its ok. I have tingling in my feet, hands, lips, nose, side of my face, and ear that I have noticed so far. I can eat everthing but soda taste like spoiled soda. Its absolutly horrible. Which I think is funny cause the doctor told me to stop or atleast cut back, well I have no choice now. I am begining to get a blister or something on my lip but I don't know if its because of the medicine. But I did't have it before starting. Those are the only side effects I have right now and hopefully that will be all that I have. Hope I help someone. Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri in late summer 2011. I was NOT able to take the medication until 2 weeks after the spinal tap because the spinal tap pressure was NOT high enough by typical standards. I have been taking the medication for 1 week total. Tired, yes, but bearable, soda, YUCK tastes horrible, but who cares. Pins and needles in my feet come and go. Overall I am happy. It takes some getting used to. If you are a caffine drinker (coffee for example) that does help with the headaches.Read More Read Less

I have been on Diamox for approximately 6 weeks now. I started out taking 250mg for a week and then was increased to 500mg/day. I saw my neuro approximately two weeks ago and my dose again was increased to 1000mg/day. I currently get a good bit of the side effects, i.e. numbness and tingling in my hands, face, legs, feet, everywhere really. Soda tastes gross, but that is okay. I am completely tired, ALL THE TIME. This is the toughest part for me to overcome, as I used to run 4-5 miles approximately 4-6 times a week. I also work shift work as a paramedic in a very busy, demanding city service, and I am certainly having difficulty keeping up like I used to. Which is tough for me, because mentally I want to do everything I used to, but physically I need to sleep. I also get winded walking up the steps or putting my uniform on, which again, is tough for me. My headache has never completely gone away, and today is the fourth day that my head feels like it is going to explode. I see my eye doctor in two weeks to again check my papilledema. When I saw the neuro, from his exam he felt that it hasn't changed, but obviously he wants a better picture taken. I just keep going every day. I can deal with the side effects, even though they are frustrating, if it prevents me from going blind, however I am certainly sick of having headaches. I guess we will just see how this treatment progresses. Read More Read Less
